The fans were booing and abusing Gonzalez, I was there and I saw it. Poyet will no doubt walk because he will feel the fans are against him and you will have nobody to blame but yourselves. Probably wouldn't be a bad thing but remember why he walked, a lack of support from his own fans. What a club!!"

Albion boss Gus Poyet has slammed The Amex crowd for booing the team and taking the mickey out of new goalkeeper David Gonzalez.

A minority of supporters booed the side off at half-time as they trailed 2-0 against Watford.

The Seagulls fought back to draw 2-2 but Poyet was also disgusted by supporters in the North Stand sarcastically applauding Gonzalez for saving a shot after he had been beaten by Sean Murray’s early free-kick.

Poyet told The Argus: “It was a minority but I didn’t like it. First there was a very strange reaction to David Gonzalez from the North Stand.

“Normally they are unbelievable but that I’m not going to accept, I don’t care who they are. They are here to support our players.

“And then the booing at half-time. It looks like Real Madrid have been playing in town for the last 20 years, it looks like they have been in the Championship top ten many times, so I am very disappointed.

“If David had let a goal in through his legs I wouldn’t agree but I would understand that sometimes we take the mickey out of somebody but it wasn’t like that so they need to be careful.

“I don’t like it because they are being unfair to an unbelievable group of players who are bringing plenty of joy to this football club and attacking any single person is attacking the whole club.”

Poyet praised substitute Vicente for climbing off his sick bed to set up Will Buckley’s equaliser against his old club.

The Spanish star was drained after Saturday’s defeat at West Ham and had to call out a doctor late on Monday evening.

Poyet said: “We convinced him to go on the bench, just in case. In normal conditions he shouldn’t have been playing.”

Skipper Gordon Greer was rested after carrying an abdominal injury in recent matches and Marcos Painter went off at half-time with a recurrence of hamstring trouble which rules him out of Saturday’s visit by his play-off bound former club Birmingham.

Albion are mathematically out of the play-off picture ahead of their final home game of the season and have slipped to ninth in the table, their lowest position since February.
