Albion will face an injury-hit Tykes

Albion will face an injury-hit Barnsley side when they end their Championship season at Oakwell on Saturday.

Star midfielder Jacob Butterfield and Matty Done plus senior goalkeepers Luke Steele and David Preece top the list of absentees.

Defenders Bobby Hassell, Scott Golbourne and Rob Edwards and midfielder Nathan Doyle also miss out.

Boss Keith Hill, who guided the low-budget Tykes to safety with two games to spare, is likely to give 18-year-old winger Jordan Clark a start with other youngsters on the bench.

Goalkeeper David Button, on loan from Spurs, has featured in recent matches but Tykes have won just one of their last 14 fixtures.

Former Albion defender Jimmy McNulty was last night named Barnsley players' player of the season while ex-Seagull Craig Davies won their goal of the season award.

Albion play their final reserve team game of the season against Cheltenham at the Sussex FA’s Culver Road headquarters in Lancing today (2pm).

Here's your chance then boys. Show us what you can do against an injury hit team that narrowly avoided relegation. Surely at least a draw is possible.

I agree with previous suggestions that some of the younger players should get a run out against Barnsley. There's no point in having a development squad (other than as a cash cow) if they never get a chance to show their capabilities at first team level. I hope the guys can sign off an encouraging season with a stylish victory, regardless of who finally plays.

I've been to several away games this season and have yet to see us win, so I hope to put that right on Saturday in one of my most local away games. It's been a great season so let's finish in style and secure a top ten place. Let's hope the performance makes it even more persuasve for Vicente to stay.

Don't tell me you missed the Leeds and Derby games Wooah Wooah!
If the two Sheffield teams get promoted, then surely that's two more for next season.
Looking forward to next campaign, but Saturday's game is looking like a 'run out' for the lads.

Glad Jimmy McNulty has done well he has come back strongly and bravely from an horrific injury.Good luck in the future Jimmy.

I really would be disappointed if this was a "run out for the lads"!! I would expect a good performance and a win to maintain some momentum for next year. If any of the players are in holiday mode now then they should not play. Finishing as high in the table as possible is good for pschological reason for both fans and players. To end the season, with barely a whimper is not acceptable! Off to Barnsley, so will be expecting a performance for my money!! UTA!

Lets hope so. Would be nice to finish with a win though. Just hope players aren't in holiday mode.

Maybe you're a jinx! I'm afraid Vicente is probably off from what I've heard.

Yes, Mark5, we should put out our strongest side against Barnsley, as we are still aiming to finish as high as possible.
West Ham need to put a lot of goals past Hull for automatic promotion, in case Saints only manage a draw against Coventry.
That scenario would see us finish eighth, (combined with a win at Barnsley).
Defeat, as you say, would not be good psychologically, even though 11th or above is more than respectable over the course of the season.

The higher you finish the more money you receive from the League, so 8th will be much better than 10th financially.I think people forget this.

Its actually peanuts. The promoted team only gets £50,000 although the benefits of promotion amounts to millions, 2nd place gets £25,000 but same benefits for promotion for them. The playoffs are more financially rewarding than auto promotion.

New financial rules will apply to the Championship from the 2014/2015 season onward.

My take on it is that clubs relegated from the Prem' will have an ever greater advantage, so we need to go up sooner rather than later.

The promotion push starts on Sunday, and I have every confidence in Tony Bloom and Gus, to assemble and prepare a side capable of going a step further to clinch at least a play-off place at the second attempt.

I really think you should moderate your threatening foul mouthed comments. Young Brighton fans read this site and should not be open to this sort of language.
The only person that should be removed is you. This is a public site for all views and comments whether you like them or not.

Or more accurately, car park plans approved, and a decision on seating expected around 4.30pm.

I think chelsea have just demonstrated the irrelevance of injury hit and even numerically disadvantaged team and against the best team in the world. End of the day it is 11 decent footballers against 11 decent footballers. Sure we can and should win but can never afford to be complacent. Gus is proffesional and will pick the team that he thinks can win against whatever the opposition can put against us.

Pte,
I will assume another log on identity and slag off anything that's on here (i'll stick to the Albion site unlike our friend). I think i could probably have you rolling around in hysterics by the sound of things.
I like some perspective, Suede 25 was perhaps a little nearer the mark.
