Vicente set to play at Barnsley

Fans' favourite: Vicente Fans' favourite: Vicente

Albion boss Gus Poyet has no plans to leave Vicente out of Saturday's closing fixture at Barnsley.

Fans making the trip to Oakwell will carry Spanish flags, banners and even wear costumes urging the influential former Valencia playmaker to stay next season.

Asked if he will be involved on Saturday, Poyet told The Argus: "I hope so. Everything looks allright. If he finishes the week training normally he will be playing."

Yeah, they really should have given him the choice of location - Old Trafford, perhaps? :-)

Don't worry 2014/15 he will be playing at Old Trafford along with the rest of the team.

I think even the most optimistic of BHA fans would not bet any hard earnt money on Vicente playing for us next season. He will either go back to Spain or join a premiership team. And why wouldn't you if you were in his shoes. He's quality and has maybe 2-or 3 years left. I wish him well and thank him for the memories.

he's only a WUM if you allow him to "wind you up". H'e not as bad as some on here, and on occasion is actually quite reasonable in what he says... almost as if he is a true fan and a STH, which i suspect he is.

Well that is where the real debate is. Is it or isn't it a fan, but if you read all of the posts you would know it wasn't, because of the inconsistency. However I do understand your point on the other level of trolling you mentioned.

The trick of this Troll is to submit soft subtle comments, with damning the club in between?

Finding Trolls is a bit like playing where's Wally, so I guess at the end of the day there is a bit of motivation on both sides.

No one's saying you're not entitled to do so and you know that. We're just disagreeing with your opinion. That's freedom of speech. But you guys don't seem to like that do you? All you want is to get rid of them and for them to shut up. Because YOU don't like them. Sod everyone else who does, they're not important. Now that's really hilarious.

Super KUMQUAT.
There are opinions that i disagree with and there are Trolls or WUMS that i find amusing (Suede 25 was one from the beginning of the season who had a spat with MBTS). I am not trying to Police the site and neither should you. But if the 'comedian' is heckled, let him come back with the put downs. It's (HPR) current strategy is to actually make some sensible comments. Yes it's being ganged up against but that is what it wants. Put away the cape Mr Crusader...

I tend to agree with your assessment Baldseagull.
I hope he appreciates all the patience that the club showed in getting him 'fully fit' to play - it would be a let down if another club especially one in England were to benefit now.
Turning to this thread I feel it is tempting fate when Poyet says Vicente will probably play this Saturday. So often when Gus says something before a game the opposite happens witness his statement over Noone's injury recently when it was inferred that Noone might not play again this season. What happened ? Noone was on the bench two days later and played!
I gather from an earlier report that Poyet will not be giving 'fringe' players a chance this weekend. I hope he makes an exception for JFC since I would like to see him play alongside Vicente and this might possibly/probably be his last chance of doing so. I really think JFC would learn alot from the experience. Any others share the same view ?

Not quite spot on, I would bet on him staying here. Where else would he be able to have a team built up around him at a new state of the art and forward thinking club?

We are a great club to be involved with and have a bright future.

The only reason for him to go would be for family reasons. Everytime he plays for us, he really plays for us and he has never looked like a player that wanted to leave.

Looking forward to our future memories, and I wish him the best of luck playing for the Albion.

Ringmer Rich says...

That run and shot against Derby (if only). Class is the word most used for the man this season. If he does go i echo the sentiments of BHAFCetc.
On the reverse, if he does go, will the lack of a star (unless we get Messi on a free), allow for a slightly more balanced team? Class spread across the board as opposed to one small package?

I agree and especially since his pattern is to stay loyal where he is wanted. I think the only reason he left Valencia was that the new coach didn't fancy him - maybe the injuries - but he is certainly not one of those 'men of many clubs'. I think we have a great chance. Let's believe it anyway. He has been amazing to watch and the other lads seem to appreciate him.

namgo49 says...

If he is fit he should play. It is just another niggle about whether he can be viewed as a long term prospect for the club, even if he did want to stay.

It will take some time for the "sick note" tag to disappear. Too if he was really serious about staying in this country would he not have had a better stab at getting his head round our language. Shades of Tevez!!

I think when he plays he is fantastic but he is no good to us out for 60% of the season with niggling and unexplained injuries.

He has much to prove before he can be regarded as a cornerstone of a team on the rise!!

Rhodes Seagull says...
8:17pm Thu 26 Apr 12

Think the only reason he would go is family connected.
Sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but one of the reasons he came to Brighton in the first place was because I believe he stated he wanted to play football and the money was not at the top of the list.
If he was to go to a premiership club do you feel he will get that important consideration of "he wants to play football" or come to that even going back to Spain would he get the chance in a top flight team there?

While at Valencia, Vicente publicly blamed the medical staff for his continuing injuries.
It seems like more than coincidence that he has been playing on a regular basis since the arrival of the new medical team at The Amex.
This could have a major influence on who he plays for next season if he decides to remain in the U.K.

Viva Vicente!!!!

Don't seem to be able to quote posters at the mo' but agree with the BaldSeagull / Anything Is Poss' / GordonGull 'thread'. Think he may stay based on the loyalty and medical staff reasons coupled with a genuine liking of the place and the presence of Spanish speakers to make him feel at home (Gus, Tanno, Calde).

However it all depends on his outlook regards the birth of his second child in June (reported here earlier in the week). Will that prompt him to return to Spain on a permanent basis or perhaps inspire the move in some way? Who knows? One way or the other, Vicente I salute you, señor!

(PLEASE STAY!!!!!)

P.S I do agree with you, Ballantrrae, regards JFC for tomorrow. Would also pick Toby over Vokes. Perhaps start him (with CMS) as the left sided forward?
