Fans fly the flag for Vicente

Quedate por favor: Albion fans are stepping up their efforts to persuade Vicente to stay Quedate por favor: Albion fans are stepping up their efforts to persuade Vicente to stay

Albion fans have launched a last-ditch attempt to persuade Vicente to stay – by making him feel at home in Barnsley.

Supporters will wear matador outfits and wave Spanish flags at today’s closing fixture of the season in South Yorkshire.

They will also display a banner declaring: “Vicente: Te Queremos, Quedate por favor”, which translated means “We love you, please stay”.

The match at Oakwell could be Vicente’s last in an Albion shirt, with the future of the former Valencia star up in the air.

Stephen Kuhn, a Lincoln-based season ticket holder at The Amex, has organised the Vicente love-in via the internet.

He said: “A few fans have said they are going for the whole Spanish matador outfits and I think there will be quite a few moustaches and matador hats.

“I’ve got a Valencia flag and my son has got a Spanish flag. I am also going to hand around some Spanish flags to other Brighton fans.

“I am hoping to turn the away end into a Spanish end full of Spanish colour.”

Vicente has been a big hit with fans and a big influence on the team, despite limited appearances due to injury problems.

Kuhn said: “He has only started ten games but I have been on the train with people having the conversation about whether he is the best player ever to have played for Albion.

“I am not sure, if he signs, we will automatically be a better team but I would love him to sign because he is worth the admission money alone. Some of the passes he hits are inch and ounce perfect.

“He is the best player at the club, a Premier League quality player. If we can do anything which helps persuade him to stay that would be great but if he goes it would be really nice if we show him how much we support him.”

A very nice touch which will do no harm, but like Gus stated, if we bring in the right players and show we are genuine promotion contenders next season, it won't be to hard to keep Vicente. I hope with every fibre of my being he stays, he is a remarkable talent and if he stays next season, i think he will prove himself to be the best player to have ever turned out for the Albion. Viva Vicente!!

Sounds positive - but surely this 'last ditch attempt' is misleading. It gives the impression of desperation - which certainly not the case.

You are all bonkers. Do you honestly think that waving a few pathetic banners and dressing up to look like a bull fighter is seriously going to make him stay! Get over it he is going to bigger and better things no matter what you do. Now like an old girlfriend that's dumped you I suggest you all move on, there's plenty more fish in the sea and all that.

Waiting for you to move on to bigger and better things, but as you know, from experience, we are hard to leave behind.

Let's hope he stays. And HPR, keep up the comments, you brighten my day bringing a smile (albeit slightly twisted) to my face on these dismal mornings

He's incredibly brilliant, that's for sure. He'll have to go some for me though to surpass my old mate, Wardy!! Still the highest goal per minute average for England Full and under 21s combined I believe of all time following his hat trick against Norway U21s after recovering from a virus!! After Gus though, for sure Vicente seems the next important of all! Let's score 4 today and mess up all our away form stats!!
