Gus Poyet applauds the fans at Barnsley
Gus Poyet urged fans to enjoy their local bragging rights after Albion finished tenth in the Championship.
A run of five points from their last eight games was capped by today’s dull 0-0 draw at Barnsley.
It was a disappointing finish to a memorable and momentous season for the Seagulls back in the Championship.
But they finish in the top half and well clear of rivals Crystal Palace.
Boss Poyet said: “I will tell you two or three things that are very important.
“One is finishing tenth. For the last 20 years Brighton didn’t finish in the top ten in the second tier of English football so credit to the players.
“Then I always say if you have a big, big rival you have two options. You can try and beat them and it doesn’t matter what happens in the end.
“I like the one where you finish ahead of the big rival by ten points.
“Every single Brighton fan all over the country and all over the world should be proud of this group of players.”
Both teams had struggled for goals of late with Albion failing to score in their final three away games.
Poyet said: “If I was a betting person, which I am not, I would have bet on a 0-0.
“After 45 minutes I thought the good news was there was only 45 to go.”

Gus says he would have bet on a 0-0 at half time. Any decent manager would have changed things if they thought that and gone for a win agains't a team that would have been relegated if Pourstmouth hadn't had the points reduction.
New manager for next season please, sign some talent, less queues, improve the pies and I may reconsider purchasing a season ticket.

Just about sums it up when the biggest achievment of the season is finishing above Palace. Didn't Palace come to the Amex and destroy Brighton. Yes they did so that trumps the league table position doesn't it.

Anyway, overall good season. Good, bad and on one or two occasions pretty awful, we have had our highest finish in a long time and some great games against top sides. Dunky's come through, Vicente has shown us the quality that hopefully one day will be the rule as opposed to the exception(al). CMS will hopefully continue to frustrate and be supplied with a worthy partner.I said i'd be pleased with mid table, i know the likes of MBTS were hoping for better signings and a play off spot but there's always next season. On the down side and no doubt the point of several debates to come over the summer, i'd like a plan B when the passing game is not working, some evidence of this after the West Ham game (home) but too often we lacked ideas. Also the striker situation needs sorting. Out of all the loan players, i think we're all agreed that Mattock would be an excellent addition. I'm not so sure that Painter or Dicker have made the grade but i question not their effort or commitment. Gus is learning and his CV is quite impressive. I look forward to my first season ticket in a while...

Either way we have had a great season, one that all at the club can be proud to say they had a part to play, on the field or cleaning up after a game.
Supporters also should be proud in themselves, as I live outside the UK I have to rely on comments here and other web sites and cannot remember one news story about Brighton & Hove Albion supporters going OTT.
Thanks also to those that come here and give there opinions of a game they have actually been to, I find there comments more informative than those who get paid for doing so although both Andy and Brian do give good comments and reports.
Well done the Albion, now looking forward to next season and hope it will be as entertaining as the one has been.

At least there is the European Championship to break it up, but we don't even have a manager.
Martin O'neill has ruled himself out, and I'm not sure if Alan Pardew has even been considered.
Assuming we can't get Pep Guardiola interested, I'm thinking of reviving my 'Big Sam for England' campaign in an attempt to generate a little controversy.
Does this make me a Wind-up Merchant?
Only if you can come up with a more convincing candidate.

Thankyou for a wonderful 1st season back in the championship, i had hoped for a top 10 finish and so i am a happy man although with only a few games left i really thought we might sneak in to the playoffs, roll on next year.
So on to what i think may be a tough summer, not just in terms of who you get in but who you are going to let go. We clearly have some fantastic pros/role models within the squad but are they good enough for the next step? i admire and respect what a sterling job some of these guys did for us especially last season but perhaps now is the time where you have to be honest with them, thank them and move them on. i wont mention names as i really am very grateful for the service they have given us, this is an unenviable task but im sure you are the man to pass this latest test of your management skills.
thanks again and the very best of luck this summer

This season has been the most successful in a generation, and I often see children in Brighton shirts. Believe it - our fans and our benign chairmen have taken us to a much higher level - and we have much to look forward to.
I still spare a thought for a couple of Albion supporting mates who sadly didn't live to see our homecoming; but I also rejoice in the undoubted pleasure (and success) the future will bring. UTA!!!

Now comes the test, if he can make the right signings early in close season (without the disruption of the plays-offs) his C.V. will still look good.
Next season there will again be six or more teams who have Premiership experienced players and parachute money. To get ourselves ahead of those clubs, whilst keeping a tight hold on wages is going to be a huge task.
Let's keep our expectations real, and enjoy another good season at the wonderful Amex Stadium, and congratulations to the fantastic away fans who, somehow, in these financially difficult times manage to travel great distances to give their support, in numbers, to our team.

Roy Hodgson would be good to come in at late notice, because he is a good stable straight forward talking guy, who knows his stuff. You have to forget the time he was at Liverpool, that was when Torres was there and Roy had to base the team around him when out of form, as he has proved with Chelsea.
Not too fussed if the new manager is specifically British as long as they have managed in the Prem or at the very least speak good English and has good communication skills.

Ups and downs throughout but the over riding theme was one of progress. A bit more tweaking in the summer and hopefully we can improve still further. Palace can have 6 points of us every season as far as I'm concerned as long as our end of season position matches our wishes. It's a 24 team league not a head to head. I hope Vicente stays...so many out of your seat moments in so few appearances...but if he moves on to bigger and better things good luck to him and thanks for the memories. Later under Cattlin we also had some great players in Dean Saunders, Terry Connor, Gary Nelson etc, but just failed to get back to the top flight.

Gus could have given The Saints credit for promotion back to the Premiership which is something the Albion will not be doing for several seasons.
Just have to add that this was a disingenuous post, given that much of the Albion fans' (temporary) disaffection for SFC was caused by Adkins' gracelessness. Top manager, yes, generous spirit - NO! ... and if I were you, I wouldn't speculate on a team's progress in the future - either Albions or Saints.........
He just shows up occasionally to make a nuisance of himself.

Oh well, looks like a close season of transfer speculation and trolls.
Apparently Switzerland were ranked third in the world under his tenure!
You could be right about his time at Liverpool. K.D. hasn't done any better after spending fortunes.

P.S You missed The Wheeler Dealer. Still first choice IMHO.
Pity about Big Sam though.....

In Australia we normally get the "viewers choice" of about 4 or 5 Prem Lge games each saturday night, anyone in the lower half of the league v Mouthampton is just another match I'll never watch, Good luck but don't hold ur breath (Le tissier retired years ago !!!)

They say it would have cost the FA £10 million to compensate Spurs so it wouldn't have been a clever move.

After Redknapp the time would be right for O'Neill?
These are my top 3 for the job and there is room in time for all of them.
Roy at this moment in time is just a really good stable manager and deserves this post for all the honest dedication he has given to the game in his life.
I never felt comfortable with Sven or Fabs, but Roy has my full support and I can now sit back and look forward to the Euros ;o)

Let’s judge the FA and Roy after the Euros and just enjoy the spectacle as a whole rather than something we must win.
