El-Abd makes winning start with Egypt

Adam El-Abd’s international career is up and running with a win.

The Albion defender played the second half of Egypt’s 2-1 friendly win over Cameroon in Sudan tonight.

He went close to scoring, hitting the side-netting from a corner, and successfully came through a modest defensive test against a below-strength Cameroon side.

El-Abd partnered young Fiorentina defender Ahmed Hegazy at centre-back and was always looking to organise colleagues at opposition set pieces.

He made several interceptions and impressed with his physical presence.

The Brighton-born defender, whose father is Egyptian, also created a decent chance with a long ball.

El-Abd is hoping to make the cut for the World Cup qualifier against Mozambique, to be played behind closed doors in Alexandria on June 1.

The Pharaohs face Togo in a friendly on Tuesday and also hope to play Zambia later this week.

With thanks to Adam Moustafa, whose Twitter feed on Egyptian football can be found at @egyFt.

So he played only the second half against a below-strength Cameroon side and his highlight was he managed to hit the side netting from a corner.
Could have been a Saturday afternoon at the Amex really. Boring football with boring players. Yawn yawn yawn................

Well done Adam, good to see you continuing to progress in the game. Would never have believed what a good player you would become three years ago. Just shows what can be achieved by total commitment and willingness to learn.

Yes indeed, Phantom.

Adam has worked very hard at his game to improve all aspects of his play and has stepped on immeasurably.

He's made a great success of his club career and will now hopefully carve out a future on the internaional scene too.

Well done and good luck to him in his attempts to "make the cut".

Egypt are a major force in African footy so if he keeps at it he may very well be on that plane to Brazil in 2014.

Really please for El Abd. From being criticised as useless (by some) in League One, to international football. Hope he goes on to become a regular in the Egypt team.

Very intelligent debate from Rodney in Hastings!! You may have lost your pier but there is no need to take your anger out on a poor old BHA season ticket holder. Shame on you.

Doubt very much you are older than me chum. I usually just pass your cr*p by, but in this instance, you have gone too far in insulting a Brighton stalwart. As far as I am concerned, the Albion doesn't need 'fans' like you.

I genuinely respect your passion for your team although probably misplaced. As far as insulting a Brighton stalwart is concerned that is your opinion but I am also entitled to mine and I do not rate him one bit.
Also I have never said I am a Brighton fan, I'm just a season ticket holder who enjoys football but doesn't see too much of that at the Amex.
Now we've got that sorted I wish you good night and hope you are not too upset and disappointed by the season ahead.

A cleaners staff pass is not the same as a season ticket.

Oh yes, another troll has resurfaced. How delightful!

These specimens remind me of a situation some friends had to suffer in the past.

They lived in a house with damp. It was pungent and unpleasant but they managed to live with it by getting used to it and to a late degree ignoring it.

Maybe this is what we have hear until it is treated.

Oh well, scrollin' scrollin' scrollin'....

Really pleased for Adam. I remember, how poor his game was at Withdean, under the previous "Coaching"(loosest interpretation of the term)regime. He was slated continuously, but never had the direction. But despite this, he kept going and doing what he was "told". Scroll forward to now, and we have a player who is Albion through and through, never lets us down with strengh and commitment and is one of our best players. He is a great advertisement not only to the club, but also as an example of what quality coaching can do for a player with the "right" attitude. I hope (and expect) that he is with us for the long term.

HPR, anyone who says they are a regular season ticket holder for a team they don't support is far from honest and sincere, it just doesn't happen. Who would make all that effort and payment for a team and stadium they despise?

Just to provide us with evidence and back up you claim of club membership, maybe you could let us all know what is on the top right of your membership card, and also the first digit of your card number?

I wasn't joking, he does not have a season ticket.

One week he says he was in the West, next week he was in the North and another in hospitality. Anyone else got a roving season ticket like that?

If he was there at all it was as staff.
Probably his first time inside a stadium and expects it to be like MOTD highlights for 90 mins.

Not sure you were watching the same match as me, especially as there was only one booking & that was Vaz Te for taking his shirt off when he scored. We could do with a few more Howard Webbs in the championship

Every little thing HPR posts about the Albion is derogatory. Only a Palace fan would do that.
