Albion open their Championshipship season with a long haul to Hull and a chance to get the better of Steve Bruce again.

The Seagulls visit the KC Stadium on August 18 for their first league fixture.

It means they start the campaign with two away games after visiting Swindon in the Capital One Cup four days earlier.

Bruce was Sunderland's manager when Albion knocked them out of the League Cup at The Amex early last season. He has taken over at Hull from the sacked Nicky Barmby.

The corresponding fixture last season ended goalless, as did The Amex meeting between the teams, when Nigel Pearson was the Hull boss.

Albion's first home game is on August 21 against Cardiff, who reached the play-offs last season, followed by a visit from Barnsley.

Arch rivals Crystal Palace host the Seagulls on December 1, with the return at The Amex on March 16.

Gus Poyet's side have two home matches over Christmas, against Millwall on Boxing Day and Watford three days later, before kicking off 2013 at Ipswich.

They face a testing climax as they bid to improve on last season's tenth-placed finish. Visits from Charlton, Leicester and Blackpool in the final month are combined with away games at Middlesbrough, Peterborough and a penultimate trip to Leeds.

The final match of the season is at home to relegated Wolves on May 4.
