Poyet happy to see new colleague
12:00pm Monday 18th June 2012 in Albion By Andy Naylor
First day: Paul Barber
Paul Barber starts work as Albion’s new chief executive today with a ringing endorsement of his credentials from the manager.
Gus Poyet has welcomed the appointment as a further sign of the progress made by the club.
Barber was executive director of Spurs during Poyet’s spell at White Hart Lane as assistant manager to Juande Ramos.
The 45-year-old former commercial and marketing director for the FA quit Major League Soccer outfit Vancouver Whitecaps in February and has been working back in England since April as a consultant to Coventry City’s owners Sisu.
Poyet told The Argus: “I know him but I couldn’t say I know him well. I am looking forward to working with him.
“It is impressive for our club to get somebody who was on the board at Spurs and then left for a nice challenge in America. We should be delighted we are bringing in people like Paul Barber.
“Five years ago taking about a new stadium, winning League One the way we did, being consistent in the Championship and having a player like Vicente and someone like Paul Barber would have seemed crazy but now it seems normal.
“The whole situation has changed for the good and if we keep calm and keep going and keep getting better who knows the type of players we can bring?”
