Hinsh plans to carry on

Martin Hinshelwood wants to continue in football Martin Hinshelwood wants to continue in football

Martin Hinshelwood insists he is not finished with football – despite his recent departure from Albion.

The Seagulls’ former head of youth is seeking a new club and could secure a role in the Football League.

Hinshelwood, 59, is open to scouting or coaching positions and would love to get back in football as soon as possible.

He said: “I was with Brighton for 14 years, I’ve left by mutual consent but I still want to get back in the game.

“I’ve been in touch with Football League clubs, I’ve spoken to a couple of non-league clubs.

“I’m looking at coaching and managing roles. I’m just keeping my options open at the moment.

“People know what I can do. I’ve got plenty of experience.”

Hinshelwood received messages of thanks from several of his former youth team players when his departure from the club was announced recently.

Albion are now advertising for a new manager of what they plan to become a Category 2 Academy.

Should get fixed up no problem. Just because the time is right for a change at Brighton (and the time had definitely come for a fresh approach) doesn't in any way devalue what he has contributed over 14 years. He put more players through from youth to first team than anyone has a right to do!

I have no idea what took place to lead to a parting of the ways, by mutual consent, but I know that the results after Hinsh's departure took a sudden turn for the worse. Not coincidence I would wager. I hope the Albion don't regret letting him - and his vast experience - go elsewhere, but good luck to him in his new venture.

How can results have taken a turn for the worse? He only left a few weeks ago!

Sorry Jonathan but BJ is right on this one. MH left after the season finished.

I think what JM meant was that results suffered when Hinsh was relieved of his role running the Youth Team before the end of the season. When he left they were comfortably top of the league but unfortunately results took a dive & they missed out on winning it. Anyway the bloke is football through & through & I'd imagine most people will wish him good luck in finding a new club in the not too distant future!

Thankyou, Keva, for your understanding and your insight - that is exactly what I meant.

Is there more to this story than we are hearing, mutual parting that doesn't sound right. I thought he was retiring that is why he left, has he had his nose put out for some reason. We need to know the answers, are there backroom problems we don't know about, Gus is definitely a pessimist and not an optimist with his comments, surely this spreads throughout the club.

I thinkits more just a case of BHA wanting a higher profile name and personality moving forward. When the academy eventually opens we are going to be competing with the very best to secure up and coming young footballers. We are going to need to attract these Pro's of the future not just with fantastic facilities but with a background of success. Just my opinion as always

The calibre of his replacement will give us some indication of the reasoning behind MH's departure.

(As suggested by SMF20).

results dont matter one bit, its the developement clubs are looking at.. inproving players as they get older.. Hinsh going has been on the cards for years, the fact players have come through into the first team is nothing really when you consider the size of sussex, picking up the best youth is easy, most of the players would have been picked up by another club and would probably been better players.. perfect example is Elabd.. he had to wait till he was 25-26 till he recieved quality coaching.

I think MBTS probably has it about spot on. Hinsh was the right man at the right time given the cicumstances we were in.

The Albion is already a vastly different beast and is getting bigger and, er, beastlier(!) with every passing month.

SMF and Gordon have it right also.

Btw: this blimmin' phone of mine tried to change the sentence "Hinsh was the right man at the right time" to "Hinsh was the tight man at the rich time"! Gotta love it!

I think MBTS is absolutely spot on in saying that for Gus the results of youth games matter much less than skills and attitude development and this is where he and Hinsh were not entirely in accord
