Poke returns to Torquay
9:52am Thursday 28th June 2012 in Albion By Brian Owen
One and only: Michael Poke berates his defence during the League Cup defeat at Northampton in 2010
Torquay have snapped up out-of-contract Albion goalkeeper Michael Poke on a two-year deal.
Gulls boss Martin Ling has revealed he tried to sign the former Southampton keeper last summer.
Poke, 26, made just one League Cup appearance for the Seagulls, in a defeat at Northampton, in his two seasons with the club.
He spent part of last term with Bristol Rovers and was let go by Albion at the end of the season.
He already has 46 league starts for Torquay to his name, spread over three loan spells.
Poke was released at the same time as fellow goalkeeper David Gonzalez, who is reported to be interesting the Seagulls' opening league opponents Hull City.

The one time I'm in a picture in the Argus and it's the moment Poke had let the ball through his legs......Ah well. Good luck to him back at Torquay. Tony Godden apparently said that in training he looked our best keeper........... now neither of them is here.

We were so poor that day Whingy was doing evertything he could to gift Northampton goals; Navs got his studs stuck in the turf and got himself crocked for the season; Battipiedi and Baz showed that they weren't going to offer the flair we had hoped for; and Poke looked like that bloke in the TV adverts who has just stepped in from the crowd - except in his case he had an absolute stinker! I see young Michael Jacobs who was their great hope and who tormented us on the day has just signed for Derby - of everyone mentioned I guess we might see him again next season.

Two years? That's two more than he deserves as he is rubbish.

O.K. he didn't perform for us, but we surely don't begrudge him a chance to get his career back on track in a lower league.
