Elphick poised for comeback

Tommy Elphick is in line for his comeback from a 14-month absence in Albion’s sold-out second pre-season friendly at Lewes tonight (7.45pm).

The centre-half missed the whole of last season with a ruptured Achilles, sustained in the final game of the 2010-11 campaign at Notts County.

Wayne Bridge’s first appearance for the Seagulls has been further delayed after the on-loan Manchester City full-back pulled out during the warm-up at Maidstone on Saturday due to groin tightness.

Boss Gus Poyet confirmed: “Bridgey won’t play. We will wait until the weekend so we don’t take a risk.”

Vicente ’s return to action is also on hold until the first team friendlies at Dorchester on Friday night and at Hastings the following afternoon.

Two entirely different teams will be fielded in those games, both bolstered by players from the development squad.

The development squad friendly at Dover, washed out on Saturday, has been rearranged for tonight (7.45pm).

Several trialists will be used by development squad chief Luke Williams over the course of pre-season, including 18-year-old Swiss striker Daniel Vogt-Longange, formerly with Italian club Monza.

It will be good to see him back and fighting for a place. A season long injury must be a nightmare.

Good to see Tommy back. On the subject of CMS rumours etc good manager that Gus is, his failure has been to bring in a quality target man, ever since he became manager. Ok we had Vokes on loan but he was totally ineffective and Gus chose not to play the two of them together. For the past two seasons we hae had no big striker and if CMS does go what happened to all the fanfare about building a side around him. Hope I m proved wrog this next week or so and we actually get someone. Also like the idea of McCormack and CMS
playing together. It seems Warnock is shouting off again and Leeds are being linked with any number of players.

Welcome back, Tommy. Must've been very frustrating for him, especially with his teammates enjoying the new stadium!

No sure how he'll fare in the new Albion era but good luck to him.

I personally thought that Tommy was the better player out of him and El-Ebd in that 10-11 season. Wasn't sure if El-ebd was good enough for this level but he proved me wrong. If Tommy can get back to full fitness I think he will be an asset to us again

And what happened to the much heralded arrival from Arsenal of their young central defender on long term loan...? Oh well, maybe Barcelona will get him after all...

It is only Tues and Gus said he hoped to get another signing in this week--so a few (frustrating) days to go!!

Was he "much heralded", or did a baseless rumour just go round quite a bit? Where would he fit in?
