Albion to unleash Vicente
3:30pm Friday 20th July 2012 in Albion By Andy Naylor
Vicente has looked good in training
Vicente will be razor-sharp for his second season with Albion.
The Seagulls are now ready to unleash the influential Spaniard in their warm-up matches following the on-off saga of his return.
He will play a half either in tonight’s friendly at Dorchester (7.45pm) or tomorrow at Hastings (3pm) and manager Gus Poyet is excited about the shape Vicente is
in.
Poyet told The Argus: “He is looking very good, the best I’ve seen him fitness wise. The quantity of consecutive training sessions he’s had is, I am 100% sure, more than even when he was able to
play last year.
“He was recovering constantly then and couldn’t really train every day.
“Now he is spot-on so I am absolutely delighted. He will play 45 minutes in one of the games for sure.”
Vicente is poised to see out the campaign on his existing contract after Albion invoked their second-year option clause amid doubts over his future.
The former Valencia playmaker was being linked with a move back to Spain and returned for pre-season training later than the rest of the squad after becoming a dad for the second time.
Poyet will split his first team squad between the Dorchester and Hastings friendlies. He plans to play most of them for an hour, with development squad prospects on the bench, after using two
totally different line-ups in each half of the opening friendlies at Maidstone and Lewes.
The make-up of the sides will depend on several late injury checks. Craig Noone and Marcos Painter were ruled out of the Lewes game with aches and pains, while Craig Mackail-Smith (groin) and
Kazenga LuaLua (ankle) both limped off during the 3-0 victory at the Dripping Pan.
LuaLua hurt the same ankle he broke at Hartlepool two seasons ago in a challenge by Lewes substitute Arron Hopkinson which earned Albion a penalty.
Poyet is relieved the damage was not more serious. “It was a bad tackle,” he said. “The ankle was very swollen but Kazenga should be okay to play in one of the games.”
Wayne Bridge is unlikely to make his Albion debut now until next week’s pre-season tour in Southern Spain after pulling out at Maidstone last Saturday during the warm-up with a groin problem.
Development squad striker Ben Dickenson, signed from Dorchester last season, is likely to feature tonight against his old club.
It is unclear whether Poyet, still seeking to add a midfielder and striker to his squad, will have another signing wrapped up by the time Albion fly out of Gatwick on Sunday to prepare for matches
against Portsmouth and Cordoba.
He said: “We are still seeing if we can get one before we go to Spain but I’m not so sure.”

Yes dear readers, it's Friday afternoon and I have some spare time on my hands but wow, I pride myself on my initiative (basically because no-one else will). Hopefully GP will have some time to spare and get on the 'phone - I'll always find time to give him a couple of minutes.

Here's a rumour that might have something in it. If you want players with top flight experience, champions league winners medals and international caps .... Ladies and gents I give you Guti. You're right about age though - 35 - not sure if he's a good fit for us?

Also appreciated your tip about 'newsnow' who carried this story before it appeared on the Argus's own website.
Poyet yet again saying there's a possibility of a signing but he clearly doesn't seem confident of anything happening before the departure to Spain.
Really looking forward to the 'midfield powerhouse' being signed (I notice Koren of Hull seems to be available) and eventually another striker.
Hoskins initial form has been promosing and if it continues might make the striker signing slightly less important. I really would like to see him paired with CMS.

I am becoming quite sensitive to the big V's needs for equally skilled players around him and also realise that GP has a tendency to look to south America in his quest for talent. I have therefore taken it upon myself to seach for the required players required to complete our squad. Here are my findings : Alvaro Fernandez, currently at Seattle could fill the midfield slot whilst Federico Puppo, in Chicago, could look a good option alongside CMS. They are both Uraguayan so that meets one criteria... They are both quite good which completes another. They are no doubt too expensive which is par for the course but where there is a will there is a way... We simply convince Suarez to stay at Liverpool (not beyond GP's powers given that they talk every other day) and get him to charm them over the Atlantic to sign on for Liverpool. So far, so good. Now we convince Rogers to put them both out on a season long loan - simples... and after all, he owes us one almighty big favour after offloading Harley on us a year ago!!!

He's a class act and was shockingly under-employed at El Estadio Santiago De Bernabeu...although he has a (metaphorical) head the size of Joey Barton's (metaphorical) mouth!
Would be a stunning signing...therefore don't hold your breath but you never know, I guess.

But it just shows that we are working really hard targeting players behind the scenes.
There are many an old Chinese proverb;
