Albion's rivals should be scared of Vicente

Inigo Calderon has warned the rest of the Championship to be afraid of his Albion team-mate and fellow Spaniard Vicente .

The former Valencia star is back in his home country with the rest of the Seagulls’ squad at their pre-season training camp in Jerez following his first half outing at Hastings on Saturday.

Calderon, pictured below, is convinced his fellow countryman will be even more of a threat in the Championship this season after some inspired performances in his limited appearances last season.

The right-back told The Argus: “Having Vicente with us is great, even more so because he is fit and I think he is going to be better than last season, so it could be very, very good.

“The main difference is he has been with us for nearly all of pre-season, except for one week. He didn’t do a pre-season last year and that was the problem.

“He just wanted to play as soon as possible. Now he is ready to play more games for sure.

“He is getting fitter and fitter every day and he is going to be perfect for us. The rest of the Championship should be a bit afraid of that.”

Don't disagree with what Calderon is saying but why give this info out to all? Now the teams are going to be adjusting to combat the threat. Brighton are going to be a threat as a team not a one man show!!

That's OK. If they put a few player on Vicente it'll give the rest of the team more freedom

Do you think opposition teams get all their info from slips of the tongue? They will know all about Vicente already, and if they don't then they have no business being in football :-)

It's not really a case of Albion announcing this to the world, more of a journo asking Calde "How is Vicente looking at the moment?". Cue an honest answer and enough copy being achieved for a story.

That's kind of how most stories are generated, which is why we read so many about managers and players commenting on others team's players. They get asked for an opinion and it makes good reading, especially if there is any implied criticism. It's the nature of the beast I'm afraid.

I've been away for the last two weeks and I was expecting a few things to happen. Mr.V to leave and at least one new signing. Neither have happened of course but I was wondering if Mr.V has stated that he is happy with us. Does anyone know?? If not, I'm not so sure that I could ever be behind him 100%, even if his performances do win us the league. I'm not trying to be negative but the whole drama of will he or wont he leave has still left a bad taste in my mouth

He hasn't said he's happy, but he's in spain with the rest of the lads now and seems like a professional fellow, so I don't think thats going to affect his performances! hope not anyhow...

Lets hope V is fit and raring to go against Hull, hopefully we will have a season where he is available 90% of the time not 20% like last season.

On another note, would love to see us raid QPR for Derry and the legend that is Zamora! Cant see it but we can all dream :-)

I agree but its a hard one to judge until the season kicks off. At the moment I'm inclined to think that his heart is in Spain.

More than a little concerned for our lads at Hull.I see they have just bought Abdoulaye Faye, and IMHO he`s a nobbler. When he was at Stoke i watched a game against Fulham on the box.Bobby Zee made a mug of him until on the left wing Faye just kicked him straight up in the air,BZ was stretchered off,my concern is how many times i`ve seen him play that way.We dont need to lose Vicente on the opening day.

Its great to hear that The V man is looking good. Must admit that im not so chuffed reading us linked with Vokes full time, half decent player but not what we are looking for surely if we have genuine aspirations of the promised land, lets face it, Wolves are now a Championship team and so if he is not good enough for them....

Can I just throw into this debate that Vicente started against Hastings.
When he went off we were winning 1 - 0. That quickly became 2 - 0.
We ended up losing 3 - 2.
To get the best out of Vicente we need players who are capable of being on the same wavelength as him. Our record when he starts is not good which is why the signing of a quality midfielder and another striker to play with him are so important.
If we get the right type of players in in addition to those already signed then not only will the whole team benefit and especially Vicente but the latter (Vicente) will be happier as well.

Nothing to do with Vicente, but on my version of this webpage 'Calderon, pictured below' is looking a lot like a small van. A week in Spain on the weights and the running track may be called for...
