Vicente stars in Albion win

Vicente scored a super goal and was involved in three others as Albion beat Portsmouth 5-1 in a friendly in Spain today.

The Spanish star helped create an early opener for Will Hoskins and was involved in Matt Sparrow's second before firing into the top corner himself.

Substitute Dan Thompson replied just before the break for a Pompey line-up made up of youngsters and trialists.

Vicente's free-kick was nodded in by Romain Vincelot for the fourth.

Along with Tommy Elphick, the former Valencia playmaker made his exit on 65 minutes, by which time Torbjorn Agdestein had added the fifth.

Well now we know; Vicente is back and looking up for it. Hoskins again plays well and scores.

Good result against a nearly extinct team.
Better hope Vicente wants to leave Spain and come back to England this time without trying to hold BHAFC to ransom.

Of course, a friendly is only a friendly. But this sort of solid progress is very encouraging. Nice to see Vicente playing 60 minutes and running the show. We may be in for a real treat this season.

Have always thought Hoskins and CMS would be an exciting combination. It's always been the weakness of the midfield and defence that has meant we have had to over compensate in midfield. We still need a gritty midfielder and then our starting XI will be up there (still some doubt about strength in depth though, very good in terms of wingers, but struggle in quite a few other positions).

I can only see power in midfield and up front that's missing, happy with the depth we have elsewhere, just need one or two to really ignite the taste buds.

Hoskins is like a new signing these days. Excited to see him this season! Do we need a new striker now..? If we get a power-midfielder surely the creative midfielders will have more space and time to get those neccessary through balls to CMS, Barnes and Hoskins. Even Agdestein might be an important contributer next season in my opinion. Anyone know if the Chelsea game will be on TV btw?

Ditto my friend, i think this is a very fair and unbiased assessmentof where the squad is right now. I agree with the midfielder being the missing link too although i wouldnt say no to a Ameobi or Cole type striker. 1st eleven looking very strong.

I notice that Poyet is quoted on the BHA website (progressing nicely thread) as saying that the club are closer to a couple of signings than a week ago.
He appears moderately confident that they might be completed over the next week or so - presumably before the Chelsea game.
Time is beginning to run out if Poyet wants people in so they can be integrated into the squad before the serious business begins against Swindon in 3 weeks time. Hopefully Burke is working flat out to get things successfully concluded asap.
Good to see a healthy 5-1 scoreline even if it was against a makeshift Pompey side. One can only beat the team you are playing. By all accounts 5 good goals especially apparently Vicente's.
Pleased to see that Hoskins scored again and that young Agdestein also scored.

"wonder who pays for that"? Well if you go to games, buy from the shop, subscribe to the Seagulls site< YOU DO, that's why we have supporters, without supporters there would be no club.
As for 3 hours kicking a ball about! Think they do a bit more than that, Go to the beach, spend time in the night clubs just like at home except they are 99.9% sure of sunshine.

Many got excited on this site saying what a wonderfull aquisition. All well and good but as has been quoted, there is nothing on The Albions web site. He may have been offered a contract but has he or will he accept??? I hope he does from what has been said about him. Spurs and Arsenal may well have OFFERED him a contract--who knows, but this story now needs to have some ending.

Kanu is 3 years younger than Giggs who was born in 73 which I know is incredible. Also a 6ft 6in would make a great target man.

On the subject of 'going overboard', Where Hoskins is concerned, several of us have voiced the opinion that he could be at least part of the answer to our front line, if he remains free of injury, and his head is in the right place.
