Getting tougher for Albion

Gus Poyet has warned Albion they face a step up in class when they complete their training trip today.

The Seagulls face Spanish club Cordoba in Marbella this evening (7pm BST).

Their fixture against last term’s second division play-off semi-finalists caps a tough week of work in soaring temperatures which included two sessions yesterday.

Albion’s senior players have not really been tested in their friendlies so far but that changes today.

Cordoba finished sixth in the second tier last season and Poyet said: “It will be a totally different test for us.

“They are a good team, they play different football.

“For us it is going to be a new experience. Let’s see if we can live with that.”

Poyet is happy his team have benefited from their week on the outskirts of Jerez.

He added: “There are plenty of advantages of being here. It is a chance to spend time together and make sure we know each other very well.

“I know the weather in England is better now but we know here it will be 100% fine and that helps us work on tactical situations and things we need to train.”

The Seagulls continue their pre-season programme at Worthing on Wednesday. The development squad go to Lancing today.

From the stylish, chic and charismatic Marbella to dilapidated old Worthing on Wednesday. What a culture shock that's gonna be for the new signings.

Finished Cordoba 0 Albion 0 with Vincelot up front. A good test and a descent workout for the team.

I also gre up in Brighton and although I am now more than 7000 miles away in the Philippines, I still look everyday at Albion news. This has been since I was knee high to a grasshopper and my grandfather took me to the Goldstone to see Albion play MTK Budapest in 1956. I will always be an Albion fan in good times and bad.
