Defeat is cruel but Poyet pleased with performance
6:23pm Saturday 18th August 2012 in Albion By Brian Owen
Gary Dicker gets in a block
Gus Poyet is convinced Albion will pick up wins on the road if they play as they did at Hull today.
But he admits his team were “really down” after an unfortunate 1-0 reverse.
The Seagulls boss was pleased with his side, particularly in the second half.
Now he wants them to repeat that display when Cardiff visit The Amex on Tuesday.
Poyet said: “When we had to pass it, we passed it.
“When we had to play one-touch football, we did it.
“When we had to play in behind, we did it.
“We had plenty of shots.
“Normally, in a game like this away from home you are going to win.
“It can’t happen again.
“Can we repeat it on Tuesday? Can we repeat it next Saturday?
“That’s the key now.
“It was difficult to take. The boys are really down.”
He added: “After 75 or 80 minutes I was thinking ‘We’ve done everything. Let’s hope this game is not that cruel’.”
Poyet revealed Vicente had not trained since before the defeat at Swindon on Tuesday due to a minor niggle.
He added: “I suppose every single supporter will go home today a little bit sad.
“It’s a long way to go back home.
“But at the end they have to think if we play like this we will many games away from home.”

Poyet out, sack the board, release the squad, bulldoze the Amex and build a industrial estate, scrap the new training ground. Come on people let's not get too excited, we played very well and it was "unfortunate", normally play like that away and you would be unlucky not to come away with a win. Vicente and Buckley back for Tuesday for Wrexham in disguise and maybe a "marquee" signing to boot. I seem to remember going to Southend on a glorious day like this for a season opener and getting done 0-2. I also remember we went on to win the league. Keep the faith. God bless Gus Poyet and god bless Brighton and Hove Albion.

We dominated large periods of the match, with Crofts and Bridge making outstanding contributions to the more attack minded play employed by GP. Forget the Swindon performance, this was Albion in a renewed competitive mode, with flowing football from the back, and less hesitancy in midfield.
To all you Dicker doubters, forget it, he linked the forward movement exceptionally well today, and allowed Crofty the freedom to switch play and create different options for CMS and Barnes.
The latter pairing often caused confusion in the Hull defence, with their quick counter play, and movement to open up the back four. This, and the overall Albion play, was in marked contrast to last season's away style of slow and rather cautious.
Bobby Zamora? Could be the icing on the cake!
Well played Albion, there is a very successful season ahead. See you at Burnley!

Have to agree with Amexicanwave. Have always liked Dicker and he was outstanding yesterday. Comfortable on the ball, linked play intelligently and tackled back when he had to. Biggest worry yesterday?... the quality of the bench (and the frailty of Vicente of course). Our back-up options in midfield are bottom 6 rather than top 6 material. Assume Gus is on the case but early season injuries to any of the starting eleven and my optimism after yesterday's performance will soon fade.

Primarily all I want this season are good direct team performances and that’s what we got yesterday. Team consistency is key to progress and the goals will come. I don’t want to see a bad game where we rob the opposition and end up being lucky. CMS had a great game yesterday and would have scored a couple had it not been for the crossbar and a good save. All the players had a good game yesterday and I hope we play like that for the rest of the season, win, lose or draw.

Soccor is not a sport where, if you ALWAYS play well you will ALWAYS win, that attitude belongs to boxing where you can win on points or a knockout.
Who ever GP brings in as our new striker is going to face a lot of pressure from those who post on here, and probably a lot of those who don't. It seems that what people are saying is, sign a player and he will score because we expect him to, that's not how it works, Andy Carrol and his time at Liverpool tells us that and if you want more proof how about Torres at Chelsea.
When GP signs our new strike partner for CMS he will consider how that player fits into our line up and our way of playing, and he will do the same for any new midfield player or centerback. Individuals will not get us promoted but team performances will and by all accounts yesterday's match was a good team performance.

In my humble opinion the best asset we have is Gus Poyet, he could be the deal maker. Players that might come to us on loan, and I do think that we are more likely to go that way two of the three we need, will choose us because of what Poyet can do for their progress.
If we offer a million for a player many other clubs could double that bid. If we can pay 20% of a loan player's wages, other clubs can off maybe 40%. We are the only club that has Gus Poyet and there are very few of his type around.
Every thing we have today, our stadium, backroom set up, ambition, our prospects and several of our players is do to the fact that we have Poyet. Tony Bloom knows the value of this man, he knows that we build our club on his back. This is not the time to be bemoaning the fact that players have not come, this is the time to demonstrate our faith in the best asset Brighton has. The players will come, not any players, but the right players.

Statistics are all well and good when looking back to our last away goal etc, but we should focus on the now, and on another day, with the touch of luck that every club needs from time to time, we would have waltzed away from the KC with all 3 points safe and sound. The thing that fills me with hope is that we can now mix it up with our play, something that we found in pre-season, and immediately it's produced many more chances than what we normally witness, especially away from the Amex.

After missing most of pre-season, CMS's performance was a massive positive, and typical of the man, the goals will come as his service and confidence grows. Not worried about Vicente, watched the Swindon game and he took a hefty challenge that left him floored for a bit, if there's any doubt over his fitness he won't be risked, too important a player, and could cause more damage long term, Gus will protect him as he tries to with KLL because of their style of play.
Roll on Tues, big game in prospect, big crowd and huge atmosphere.

If there are three players out there that would satisfy our needs up front, in midfield and at center back, how many other clubs do you think there are also interested in these three players.

Look, this is my own view and I know others will think different. There were many games last year when we played awful but still managed to pinch a point or three. They were not good games of football to watch.
For me it's about good football. If we do that week in week out I'll be happy and the majority of fans will too.
With the right personnel which we largely have already (with the rest to follow) we'll be successful and progress playing that way anyway!
Great game Saturday. Can't wait for tmrw now.

Worrying habit not scoring away from Home - last away goal 24 March.
Vicente injured - I hope not for long.
Really need that goalscoring forward and another midfielder - both with some physical presence.
