Vicente boost for Albion

Vicente Vicente

Albion have Vicente available for the first home game of the season against Cardiff at The Amex tomorrow night.

Boss Gus Poyet has confirmed the Spaniard is fit for selection after he missed Saturday's opening Championship defeat at Hull with an inflamed thigh tendon.

Will Buckley is also close to a return from hamstring but the winger will be saved for Saturday's visit of Barnsley.

Poyet said: "Will looked very good but I don't think we will risk him. Another three or four days will be perfection."

Poyet has called for a repeat performance following the unfortunate defeat at Hull to get Albion up and running against Cardiff.

“If we maintain this level of performance I think we are going to win many, many games,” he said. “The idea now is to maintain that, the consistency that we didn’t have last year.”

Echoes of last year... Lets hope Vicente recovers quickly. It might be a good idea to sign another attacking midfielder as cover or recall JFC from Oxford.

I don't think JFC can be recalled from a 6-month loan, can he?

With most loan deals a recall clause is written in, no reason why it wouldn't be the same for JFC.

I would be very surprised if Vicente has`nt realised the impact he has for us and the change in the way we play if he is not present, and while i am not suggesting for one minute that we cant do without him (saturdays excellent performance) nonetheless all good players beleive they could have been the diference. In which case hopefully he will play against Cardiff and prove it,as we all know he can. With the extra seats the atmosphere will be incredible.UTA ps....would still like Jake back home.

OK, I no we have signed players and we have probably the best player in the div VICENTE, but what about the Forward that Gus says he wants to sign, keep reading that Derby County sign Wigan striker Conor Sammon,
Sheffield Wednesday sign 22-year-old Barcelona B forward Rodri
forward Steven Davies joins Bristol City

Brighton and Hove Albion sign ??????

Becomes frustrating when the club do not give out any positives, I just see HE WHO HESITATES IS LOST at the moment.

I think it fair to say that with probably all of our signings, last year and this, we didn't know who was coming.

Some deals take time, some take a long time. If we assume that Gus is doing his job, and why wouldn't we, we should also assume that things are in the pipeline. Would any of the three examples you offer work for our team, those clubs don't have CMS, the person we are trying to build our attack around. Those clubs don't have Vincente, the player most likely to link with the strikers.

We don't need anyone, we need the rght one. Deals are going through in the prem division and in the upper levels of the european leagues, any one of those deals might be the deal that lets Brighton get the player we are after, trickle down transfers.
There is a difference between hesitating and waiting, I firmly believe that we are waiting, waiting for things to happen, things that we are advised by other clubs will happen.
The important thing is, do we have contingency plans should any of secret deals fall flat.

Whilst I will reserve judgement to see exactly who we do sign or don't sign for that matter, I do have some sympathy for what Rhodes Seagull is saying.
He is right in saying 'he who hestitates is lost' and he is right to suggest that the club shouldn't dither regarding the signing of the extra striker Poyet and, I think most fans, want.
There are only 10/11 days left until the transfer window closes so there is relatively little time left to conclude any deal - remember Poyet doesn't really like loan deals.
No away goals since 24 March is a worrying statistic.
Glad to read and hear that CMS had such a good game - once he has sharpened up the goals should flow.
Apart from a striker, Poyet has also said he wants another CB and many posters, myself included, would like a Midfield powerhouse type signed as well.
Of course getting new players in isn't just down to Poyet it's down to David Burke as well

Thanks Andy for the update, excellent news.
However changing the headline on this thread makes my and other posters comments look slightly 'stupid' and a little redundant.
Having said that my point about signing another 'attacking midfielder' as cover for Vicente still stands.
I think having another such player would make it easier for Poyet to rest Vicente when he has a 'niggle' rather than be tempted to play him and aggravate any injury and make it worse.

Did the Managers of Derby, Sheffield Wed and Brisol City let their Fans know they were after these players before they were signed?

Hardly breaking news. Real breaking news would be the signing of that elusive goalscorer. See Josh McEachran has joined Middlesbrough on a season-long loan from Chelsea. Don't know whether Gus was interested in him but if he was, you'd have thought that with his Chelsea contacts he would have been able to secure him ahead of Boro.

The lads we put out the other day would probably have beaten most c,ship sides the way they played (guess what it was`nt our day) and it hurts,so you look for reasons ,and the current one is the missing CB,MF,and all important striker. But if i had just woke up after a couple of years ,i would be amazed at what we`ve acheived with TB & GP.I truly dont think it is us being greedy or over expectant ,but the culmination of all the years of taking second best, the scraps off others tables, and the ridicule of our rivals.(I remember a new years day 12noon kickoff against southend at Withdean(God bless her) walking to the ground amongst Southend fans, and one kind soul describing our home as a POW camp.A lots changed, and its a process that does`nt happen over night (Not even if you have a Dick Knight) Gus` first game was at S`oton in November 2010 and we outplayed them at St Mary`s 3-1,i cant remember us taking a backward step since then,so why should that be diferent now? The CB,the MF,and striker will all come. What happened to In Gus We Trust.UTA

In Rhodes Seagull's defence, I saw quite a number of 'rumours' over the last few weeks about both Sammon joining Derby and Davies joining Bristol City so the fact these signings then happened wasn't exactly unexpected.

Lots of speculation as to who might come in and who may go so why not fill the time we are having to wait to get some answers by trying to work out who would stay if we get promotion.

How many players do you guys think would make the grade.

How many do you think would be let go.

How many do you think would stay but would have backup player status.

How much money do you think we would need to spend to have a squad that would survive the first season.

I don't give a flying **** who Derby County, Middlesbrough et al are signing. I think if those were players that Gus wanted, he would have bust a gut to get them, and if he didn't succeed, well that's life. I'm sure he has other targets.

Personally, I am delighted that we have signed Bridge, Bruno and Kuszczak - all top notch signings of the sort we could only dream about just a very short while ago. That makes the defence a zillion times stronger in my opinion this season, giving us a great platform to build on.

Add the return of Vicente to the mix and we will be a team to reckon with. Very unlucky at Hull - if one of those chances had stuck everyone would be leaping up and down saying we will win the Championship.

Get real everyone and enjoy the ride. The Albion are going places but there will be plenty of ups and downs yet.

I just hope Bellamy doesn't have the last laugh tomorrow as he did last year. In my opinion if Cardiff can afford him, we can afford him. I think he would have filled all the voids being discussed in these threads.

All he wanted was a lift in a helcopter back to Bridgend after the game, that's what L'pool did for him, an opportunity lost in my opinion but what do I know - in Gus we trust, keep the faith etc, etc.

Bellamy would not have gone anywhere other than Cardiff,he stated as much.It would`nt have mattered how much money we had.Yes he would of done a great job for us,but i still think it would of taken more than a helicopter ride too get him.He is going back home to his family and childhood team.

hopefully the mail has got this wrong - they reported he had signed for wolves in trhe winter and that was wrong too. He does not have a great track record in the dressing room and, at 33 close to 34, his form in front of goal has been off for a number of years now. No doubt WHU would take peanuts to offload but I genuinely question the wisdom of this one.

Might work if Poyet/Burke wanted to bring in 2 strikers or if Piquionne came on a couple of months loan while Hoskins is out. Otherwise I'm with you JM about the 'wisdom' of pursuing Piquionne. Time will tell.
