Late decision on Vicente
9:00am Saturday 25th August 2012 in Albion By Andy Naylor
Fitness concern: Vicente
Albion will make a late decision on Vicente for today’s home game against Barnsley.
Boss Gus Poyet has described the Spanish playmaker as “touch and go” to be involved in the squad for the Yorkshiremen’s visit to The Amex.
Vicente has been affected by an inflamed thigh tendon since featuring in the opening game at Swindon in the Capital One Cup.
He missed last Saturday’s trip to Hull and felt below-par when only used as a late substitute against Cardiff on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old former Valencia star only started 12 games last season. Albion are hoping to get more out of him following his first pre-season with the club.
Poyet said: “He went past the hardest part of the summer, running and suffering. He really impressed everyone because we thought now with this base in the fitness side he is going to be much better.
“Unfortunately in the last two weeks he’s had some problems, so we took a decision after Swindon to make sure he was able to be on the bench on Tuesday, but it didn’t work. We’ll see how he goes now.”

Vicente is the class act here but I am afraid he will be off if he continues to play up front on his own. It really is a pathetic situation that we do not have a forward that can hold a ball up.

I seem to remember we had a great start to the season just 12 months ago when Buckers and Hoskins were scoring for fun (when they were allowed on the pitch, that is!). Heady days.
Please dont involve Harley, he's just invisible. Is Buckers fit does anyone know??

CMS is looking sharper this year than he was for three quarters of last season, maybe if he gets a goal it may change him because he lacks confidence in front of goal, come on Albion lets have a win today please!

Difficult to evaluate today's opponents after their success against Boro' on the opening day, followed by defeat at Molineux. They can't be taken lightly, of course, but today should see a turning point with chances being converted, hopefully by CMS and Barnes. There clearly isn't a lot wrong with the side and there has to be a law of averages that predicts a few efforts finding the net.
Only one yellow card from the first two League games is encouraging, and is the result improved skills and temperament.

I think Hoskins wanting (allegedly) to go on loan last season peed off GP as there seems to be something not quite right there between them.
We are certainly a much better team with Buckley in it then without him.

With fans like some of you lot - who needs Palace?? Quit your moaning and enjoy the position we are in. It also seems that a lot of the moaners didn't sit out in some of the truly awful times at withdean - at priestfield and the last few years of goldstone. What gets me even more are the expayts moaning - who do not even go to the games. I will give where we are now, with the players, stadium management we have - more than a free scoring bobby z (div 4 and 3 at withdean)and a scoring glenn murray (div 3 also). The team we are building is for the prem. We are looking for a prem ready striker. This is why it is difficult. Why would we buy a championship only proven striker - who will not cut it in the top div? What player would sign for us on a short term contract knowing that next year they will be surplus. I wish some of you would stop and think about what you are saying - before typing your dross on here (as it winds me up!!!!) I am off to the match this afo - and will be chearing on ALL the players that put the shirt on of the team I SUPPORT - I encourage you to do the same

Some of the comments seem unreal on this forum, fact is gus wants Harley who can provide a killer pass, where as vincelote is a defender.. Gus won't bring a forward here who won't get us 20 goals a season, that player is wanted by every club in the country.. Carroll went for 35 million because he was considered a prospect. That gives a clue to just how hard finding that player is.. I honestly don't think half of people on here even go to the AMex.”
- Come off it Mark - 'Gus won't bring a forward here who won't get us 20 goals a season'. Last year he spent £2.5 million on a player who scored 10 and half a million on a player who scored one and who he now wants shot of. When it comes to forwards he has a record which calls his judgement into question.

It is CMS that has the potential to score the often bandied around 20 goals. He needs an old fashioned centre forward to play alongside him - an Alex Dawson who can compete in the air, and nod the ball down to him. I know some of you will remember the black prince from the 60's - never shaved on match days to scare the centre half!
That could be the problem.

Harley is awful and the worst player to play for Brighton since Mark Farrington.

I am more than happy that we are not flash with the cash and we have a steady ship.
Unless TB sells the club to a multi Billionaire, be it Russian, American, Asian or a Middle eastern we will not be throwing money away on overrated primadonas, and if we did, we would really have something to complain about. I will always want our club to sit with a local owner; this is something to be very proud of. Any overspending will force the club into debt and be sold off before we know it. What’s good enough for TB is good enough for me.

Get off Harley's back guys !! Have you ever stopped to think how comments such as this affect the guy's confidence ? I cant understand how real supporters can be so damning of a member of the club they purport to support. If Gus considers him good enough to be in the squad, then Gus obviously believes the guy has something to contribute. So we should get behind whoever plays and encourage them to play out of their skins. Harley is a Pro footballer, probably a million times better than those that post such stupid comments, so if you have nothing positive to say, keep your negative comments to yourself.
Anyway I dont understand how a piece on Vicente becomes an opportunity to slate Harley.

It is because he is a pro footballer that we expect a bit more from him than most of us could manage.
He has had a lot more opportunity to show what he can do than than the likes of Hoskins and Vincelot, he has repeatedly failed to impress though.
Vincelot can play in midfield, Gus may have looked at that in training and decided against it, I bet Hoskins could do a job there if asked too, maybe Gus has tried that as well.
I can accept that, but I can't believe that it looks good with Harley there in training and he just falls apart on match days.

Yes you can . Just go to the club shop at the front of the stadium and purchase your tickets , you will have a choice of seating areas .

Why can't people accept we are still a side in transition, still learning how to play very good sides in this division. Just calm down peoples and enjoy the great football such as last Tuesdays game against a VERY GOOD side, simples.. UTA.......

If you look at how we play, we build our game from the back, we play through the midfield and out wide. Our defense is way better than last year, the skill sets among them are way higher and this should allow us to see the best of Harley.
It is the linking play that pulls our opponents apart. Just as CMS needs the right moves coming from the midfield the midfield needs the right moves coming from the defense.
I think Harley will prove to be a good signing.

Over the years this guy has put his body through a lot of hard work and now his body is paying him back. When your mind starts making appointments that your body can't meet you need to rethink your appointments.
Take him off the team sheet, get him right and then bring him back. When he is back we need to go all out to win our games in the fist half, or at least be in a winning situation, and get him off. I would settle for 45 minutes of pure skill, maybe a two goal lead, and then rest him for th enext match.
