- Follow our tweets and updates as transfer deadline looms
11:23pm
Goodnight
11:23pm
Orlandi is the only one of the four new boys who can play at Turf Moor.
11:05pm
You can follow @AndyNaylorArgus and myself @Brian__Owen plus snapper @SimonDackPix via Twitter from Turf Moor tomorrow. Safe trip if you are also going up there.
11:03pm
Tomorrow's running order in The Argus is a packed and newsy back page, then inside for CMS interview (he's still here!), Orlandi interview, stats and info on the Burnley game, full match preview and nostalgia - plus Reds, Sharks, speedway, boxing, dogs, etc.
11:02pm
However keep an eye on Andy's Twitter account @AndyNaylorArgus for further reaction once he has filed for the paper.
11:00pm
Right, time to sign off here and complete the pages for tomorrow. It was a slow burner of a day but with a surprise or two at the end.
10:52pm
Always thought it was sad Dean Hammond's last act as a #bhafc player was to be red-carded at Oldham. Chance now to ensure that was not the way he said farewell for good.
10:48pm
That's all folks! A busy transfer deadline day at the Amex. Gus Poyet, the club doctor and #BHAFC media team will now head north to Burnley!
— @OfficialBHAFC 31 August 2012
10:44pm
There you have it, Dean Hammond back. Now I need to crack on with tomorrow's paper. Reflections when I'm done. #bhafc
— @AndyNaylorArgus 31 August 2012
10:42pm
Albion confirm Dean Hammond is back with Albion. On loan for the season.
10:41pm
Sorry again for silences every now and then. Got a very busy newspaper to produce as well!!!
10:40pm
A familiar face could be returning - but don't jump to the wrong conclusion. Albion already have their striker (Dobbie). #bhafc
— @AndyNaylorArgus 31 August 2012
10:27pm
Hang around tweeps could be more news tonight... #BHAFC

10:25pm
A quick diversion to Marseille where Joey Barton will play in front of a few thousand similarly fiery characters this winter after signing a one-year loan, at last, for OM.
10:20pm
And now sources in Norfolk starting to sense the door could still be open for CMS.
10:16pm
Albion confirm the Lopez deal
10:13pm
Here's a link, if it works!!!, for Lopez story in Spain. Cost Athletic 7million Euros five years ago.
http://www.marca.com/2012/08/31/futbol/equipos/athletic/1346444628.html
10:11pm
Recap: Dobbie in for three years, CONFIRMED by Albion. David Lopez, 5ft 11in midfielder, REPORTED by top sports website/newspaper in Spain to be on his way for the season. And suggestions that might not be all for now.
10:10pm
Dobbie story is now live on this website.
10:06pm
Just seen Dobbie has signed for Brighton. Buzzing about that. Ledge Baller. #GreatSigning
— @JakeCaskey35 31 August 2012
9:58pm
Albion officially confirm Dobbie's arrival on a three-year deal.
9:57pm
Marca now reporting in Spain that David Lopez is coming to Albion for the season.
9:45pm
Confirmation from Dobbie's agent. He has signed for three years. #bhafc
— @AndyNaylorArgus 31 August 2012
9:19pm
Wondering now if there will be at least some intrigue saved for the loan window.
9:18pm
Strap yourselves in, statement of intent from Albion by 11pm. #bhafc
— @AndyNaylorArgus 31 August 2012
9:17pm
Billy Sharp goes to Forest on loan for rest of the season.
8:56pm
GP will be heading north once his work is done. The club wouldn't be putting out a tweet like that, then leave fans feeling let down. #bhafc
— @AndyNaylorArgus 31 August 2012
8:54pm
Don't under-estimate the significance of that tweet from the club, sent out at about 8.45pm. They are rightly wary of getting fans' hopes up on signings. Looks like Gus has just had another text! Or maybe staring in disbelief at the Chelsea score!
8:52pm
Gus Poyet and club doctor Helge Riepenhoff at the Amex, hoping to conclude some business before 11pm. #BHAFC http://t.co/vCHau2ry
— @OfficialBHAFC 31 August 2012
8:50pm
If you wonder why I am not constantly posting updates, we are also working busily on a packed 11-page sports section which you will see in The Argus tomorrow morning. There will be the customary five pages of Albion news and features plus a lot more including Reds, Sharks, speedway and the dog cards.
8:44pm
Just to stress we expect more activity tonight. Andy Naylor has just replied "Yes" on Twitter to a question: "Are you confident that we'll sign someone tonight?"
8:22pm
Back page update - Andrea Orlandi will be the main picture on the back of The Argus tomorrow morning as things stand right now, showing off his Albion shirt at The Amex. Still time for that to change though!
8:07pm
Looks like Burnley are finished for the window. They brought in Cameron Stewart on loan from Hull and he can play versus Albion tomorrow.
7:38pm
I have something in common with Dobbie, same birthday, or birthdate as the mother-in-law insists it should be. She's right actually. #bhafc
— @AndyNaylorArgus 31 August 2012
7:26pm
Meanwhile, some deadline-beating captures of the past. Remember these?
Ken Beamish (Mar 1971 from Tranmere)
Mark Beeney (Mar 1991 from Maidstone)
Martin Thomas (Mar 2001 Swansea)
Summer and January windows introduced to Football League 2005/06
Alexis Bertin Jan 2007 from Le Havre
Jimmy McNulty (Stockport) and Craig Davies (Oldham) January 2009
Toby Agdestein Aug 2010 from Stord (Norway)
Thanks to Tim Carder for the memories.
7:23pm
So all eyes turn to Swansea - and Swansea's sporting eyes are I daresay on the RaboDirect Pro12 opener tonight for champions Ospreys at Treviso.
7:20pm
Burnley are/were in for Dobbie
7:20pm
Dobbie more feasible than Tuncay. #bhafc
— @AndyNaylorArgus 31 August 2012
7:08pm
By the way, Calde's favourite greyhound Albion Legend goes at Hove tomorrow I notice. He's a bit of an outsider in the 9.57 at 5/1 (trap 1).
6:50pm
Rhodes-Blackburn, Maynard-Cardiff, Bothroyd-Sheff Wed. Some heavy-hitting strikers added to the Championship mix. #bhafc
— @AndyNaylorArgus 31 August 2012
6:42pm
@AndyNaylorArgus bothroyd out on loan to Sheffield Wednesday
— @Mattashton_ 31 August 2012
6:26pm
The back page of The Argus tomorrow remains wide open. Just Mike Jones and a barcode on there for now. The rest is blank. Not saying that necessarily means we are holding it for a last-minute signing. But the lead story will come late this evening from Andy Naylor when we know exactly what has gone on.
6:22pm
Billy Sharp could be back at The Amex this season - with Forest. #bhafc
— @AndyNaylorArgus 31 August 2012
6:18pm
At least one more signing expected, if not two. CMS is on coach to Burnley, GP isn't. Manager staying behind to complete deals. #bhafc
— @AndyNaylorArgus 31 August 2012
6:11pm
In-depth assessment there from one of our readers gordongull. Love the "no disrespect to Craig..." bit. right now I make it about ten-past-six on Friday - and I think we will have a clearer indication of where this season could be going at ten-past-six on Saturday. A few potentially key hours of the transfer window plus a good test at Turf Moor to come between now and then.

gordongull says
All the other Championship clubs signing players from each other means there is little to be concerned about where their 'team strengthening' is concerned.
If we can get our act together, the challenge will be no different to that of last season, with the possible exception of the relegated/promoted sides, and Cardiff.
Blackburn still have what is essentially a Premier League side, but owners who haven't got a clue, and a manager who, I believe will also be out of his depth in the 2nd flight. The quality in the side could pull them through.
Bolton will be in contention with Owen Coyle, and Wolves are managed by an unknown quantity, but are no doubt a threat.
The promoted clubs are stronger than those they replaced.
The enigma that is called Cardiff: If Maynard joins them today, that's 10 summer signings, including Nooney, but they aren't pulling up any trees yet, as they sit below us in the table, and also out of the LC to lower league opposition. No disrespect to Craig, but their unwavering pursuit of him has led me to believe that they don't quite know what they are doing.
Our own team building is not yet complete, of course, but the next few hours will give us a basis for predicting what course the season will take.
5:57pm
Meanwhile Liam Bridcutt will have to wait for his next chance to beat Nikola Zigic in the air as the Birmingham giant heads to Mallorca.
5:55pm
Those two Crawley loans include good news for Lewes, who have secured midfielder Connor Wickham. Meanwhile Jonte Smith has gone on loan from Reds to Met Police.
5:53pm
If you detected a slight lull in the live coverage, it was because I was called out for a while. Anyway, full steam ahead now. We understand the Mike Jones deal, along with two young players going out on loan, may well conclude the day's business for Crawley.
5:28pm
“@npowertransfers: Swindon are trying to sign Nicky Ajose from Peterborough united” I don't think so I'm at Crawley
— @NickyAjose7 31 August 2012
5:21pm
RT"@AndyNaylorArgus: Emile Heskey being linked with Charlton. Heskey and Fuller would be a scary pair. #bhafc"
— @NickJ4797 31 August 2012
4:32pm
Crawley have snapped up Mike Jones from Championship side Sheffield Wednesday on a two-year contract.
The midfielder, 25, links up again with boss Richie Barker, who was in charge for part of his four-year spell with Bury.
4:18pm
More news expected from Crawley Town any time soon. Watch this space as they say ...
3:47pm
It doesn't look like Crawley's Nicky Ajose is going anywhere soon.
The club have announced he has extended his loan stay at the Broadfield Stadium.
The 20-year-old, who is on loan from Championship side Peterborough, has extended his stay until January 1 with an option to buy at the end of it.
3:03pm
For those like the man from Vegas who haven't forgotten there's a game on tomorrow, injury news is that Buckley was declared fit and Vicente is 50-50. I confidently predict the Albion starting XI will NOT be unchanged tomorrow - for the first time this Championship season.
2:59pm
off topic but..... Meanwhile Elche - remember them - are looking to take Federico Macheda on loan from Man Utd.
2:57pm
As things stand in The Argus tomorrow we have a page-lead interview with Andrea Orlandi with the main story on the facing page still undecided. Currently looks like CMS on his battle for a Scotland place. I know it's not necessarily the first thing on your mind if you are setting off bleary-eyed to Burnley but you might want to try and get an Argus for the trek north. Five pages of albion plus Crawley, speedway and a CB40 preview
2:39pm
Just spoken to my Burnley contact who is unsure whether Stewart would play tomorrow v Albion. But looks like the Clarets will be busier than first expected.
2:34pm
Looks like Cameron Stewart, the man we identified as a danger man for Hull on the opening day of the season, is signing for Burnley.
2:30pm
2:26pm
Andy Naylor earlier tweeted about what he described as a left-field suggestion that Tuncay could be heading to the Seagulls.
2:25pm
There was a report from Sky Sports earlier that recent Crawley hero Nicky Ajose was subject of a bid from Swindon. Ajose is on loan from Peterborough for three months. I contacted a Peterborough source who was unaware of such a move being imminent. But it is no secret Posh are willing to let Ajose go - at a price.
2:16pm
Albion man Andy Naylor will be updating throughout the afternoon and evening as transfer deadline looms at 11pm. Already Andrea Orlandi has signed, given an interview and boarded the team bus to Burnley. Remember Craig Noone and Roland Bergkamp yesterday departed to Cardiff and Venlo (loan) respectively.
2:14pm
Can tell you a bit about Tuncay though from his time at Stoke. The talented Turk is certainly not a target man! #bhafc

You're going to keep Andy very busy today Vegas. ;o)
Last season I thought that at times, and there were quite a few times, we were somewhat predictable in our play, I am of the opinion that this season we are not. Producing a win in a style of play that might surprise a few people would send out a strong signal.
We will probably have four new players when all is done, and quality will be the the buzz word for all of them. Some of the clubs have gone transfer crazy, so many coming in you wonder how on earth they can have enough time to learn how to play together, points will be dropped during that learning time.
Brighton seem to have tweaked their approach to game but not changed the basics, the difference is that we now have better players executing those basics. The players coming in will quickly adapt to our method as our method is based on possesion, something quality players know the value of.
Brighton will set the standards this year, of that I am very confident.. ,

Heskey to Charlton?
Ipswich, Hull, and Blackpool can't afford his wages..........
Also Dean Hammond to Charlton.
Palace set to loseWilfried Zaha to Reading or Wigan
Bothroyd to Sheffield Wednesday on loan.
Huddersfield desperate to replace Rhodes, but most Championship clubs have completed their business.
That should give as an edge in any further negotiations.

We did 'get found out', and teams were able to combat our style, mainly because many of our 1st Division Champions couldn't quite deliver at this level.
All that has changed, and we have enough quality throughout the side to make a real impact this time.

Given the stated goal for this season I just can't believe that we are done in the transfer market.
With less than 5 hours to go one has to think that who ever we sign those players must have been talking to us yesterday, I can't think that we identified new targets today, but I guess it's possible.

Claude for instance is annoyed at Vegas for posting too many times and getting too much attention. Hey even Naylor's mentioned him in the blog. Claude would love to be mentioned in a blog. I am probaby preaching to the converted but the likes of Claude, HPR , Campothingy etc like to play games with their intellectual inferiors. Passion and opinion are their bread and butter, as they have none. They have many forms, none of them real. Claude for instance is annoyed at Vegas for posting too many times and getting too much attention. Hey even Naylor's mentioned him in the blog. Claude would love to be mentioned in a blog. But i'm afraid as he withholds his piece, just to tease us and probably plays with it, as he reads this. Our concern is what he wants.
His mother probably ignored him and anonymous games are all he has left.

The midfield looks really strong even with losing Nooney. But we do really need that number 9 and even more so if CMS is on his way.

When I see the money being paid out by the prem clubs for players I have to wonder, why hasn't any club moved for Chris Wondolowski from the MLS. Man if Brighton had him it would be amazing, it won't happen because of money but I guess I can dream.
Chris was on an average of more than one goal per game, and that after 17 matches.
I am still of the opinion that Bothroyd will sign, partly because it hasn't been announced that he has gone anywhere else and why wouldn't he if talks had fallen through with us.

It will be good to return home later and read of all the deals we have completed, there will be some of that I am sure.
For those concerned about the strikers going to other Champ clubs remember this, they don't have our quality defense and we will strengthen our attack options.

Lets face it, excellent players don't want to come to Brighton. So that just leaves average players to sign.
