I thought nothing could top the exitement engendered by the arrivals of Orlandi, Lopez, Dobbie and now Hammond. Ok let's move on and sign players that haven't disrespected the club and it's fans. If you can't get upset by this signing then find another sport to follow that doesn't engender passion in such a way. A player that insults a clubs fans isn't welcome. New boy no. Can I forgive him? Yes. Forget? No...though that's for possible later reference!

Is an apology (perhaps in the Sheff Weds match programme as suggested above?) in order? Absolutely!

Is it essential? As good as. Deano will have to win many supporters round the hard way and he's due to stay for a whole year. If he doesn't he runs the risk of the resident whingers, moaners and boo-boys...they won't be able to pick on Barnes because he'll be bagging 20+ this campaign and Dicker will be uninvolved - as a result of Hammond's arrival, in fact.

So while it's a head-turner and eyebrow-wrinkler of a signing, I'd back him IF he apologises. Doesn't have to be a big deal, just a brief nod to his misjudgment.

Totally agree with you Tommy, so called fans can say what they like, both abusive and personal to the players. Unfortunately you have to expect kids to hear bad language from both on and off the pitch.

I agree DH should acknowledge that his response was out of order, but i think it's hypocritical to neglect the abuse and vilification that's hurled at players every week yet turn on players that respond - - Double standards.
IDEA: Perhaps every supporter who's ever screamed abuse at a player from the stands could write an acknowledgement and apologize, then we could ask to have a special edition printed Program with the complete collection - then we would hold two titles (1) best new stadium (2) biggest book ever printed.

Er no. Can't speak for others but I have NEVER verbally abused an Albion player and Hammond received no clear abuse prior to his vile outburst and gesture.

If I was him I'd be feeling very awkward and keen to make a move on the apology front anyway!

And we're not talking down on his knees crying and begging pre-match here. Just a few words to the press and in the programme.

I understand what your saying about a player being passionate and committed to his team , so aren't loyal and genuine fans allowed the same respect from the pitch by professional players setting examples by their actions who are on considerably higher wages than most of us who pay their wages ! I will cheer all our team , i love our club , but it does feel uncomfortable to me ... Maybe he will score a bag full of goals , make a small apology and that unfortunate incident that day at Withdean will be forgotten and we can all move on, after all he is a local Brighton man !
