Poyet: What a goal!
6:09pm Saturday 1st September 2012 in Albion By Brian Owen
Gus cingratulates CMS on his wonder goal (photo Simon Dack)
Gus Poyet reckons he saw the most spectacular goal of his time as Albion manager today.
And Craig Mackail-Smith’s first against Burnley wasn’t bad either!
Mackail-Smith put Albion ahead with a superb volley and then bettered it with an overhead kick to restore the lead as the Seagulls won 3-1 at Turf Moor.
Poyet referred to the second and said: “I don’t remember in my time at Brighton a goal so spectacular.
“We have had long shots from Benno (Elliott Bennett ), I remember one from Gary Dicker on the volley.
“We have had great moves and Kazenga LuaLua from free-kicks.
“But this was so difficult, so much about the timing.
“The power on the shot was incredible.
“It was coming. If we want to be at the top we need to win away from home, not just at home. I’m absolutely delighted.”
Poyet praised a controlled performance by his side.
He added: “We had to know when to be patient in possession and when to go and create.”
Andrew Crofts left the action with what Poyet described as a muscle injury which will sideline him out for up to three weeks.
That would appear to rule him out of Wales’ two forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.

So many games with 3 or more goals, many with above four and some above 5 or better.
Whilst a lot of goals might mean a lot of good strikers it also means, a lot of weak defenses, Brighton does not have a weak defense, you can see where I am going with this.
We now have fire power, not just CMS but others too. We have a midfield that can both score and control matches.
We have a back four and a keeper that as a collective have no rivals.
If I am right about the number of goals being scored this season, and I know I am right about our team, Gus could be the envy of every other club manager this year.

Sundays are so much better after a Saturday win. Good performance, great goals. I'm wondering how GP is going to integrate Dobbie, Orlandi, Hammond, Lopez, not to mention Vicente into the side. You normally expect new signings to go straight into the side but this would seem a bit harsh on those losing their places on the strength of our last two results. Who'd be a manager ?

I bet they sometimes wish they had chosen a less upwardly-mobile club!
Our players most susceptible to injury are midfielders, but we have enough quality in those positions that it shouldn't be an issue this season.
Seven points from twelve, but only two behind the leaders. Considerate of them to let us catch up!
More drawn games like Leeds-Blackburn would be useful, starting with Cardiff-Wolves this afternoon.
There has been much hype about team strengthening throughout the division, and the threat posed by the six new sides. A quick look at results so far in the Championship will confirm that nothing has changed.
Anyone can beat anyone.

Vicente could be, and is by some, thought of in the same way and suffers little niggles, he starts as many games as possible. He gets subbed once his magic has cast it's spell on the match.
CMS, a dangerous workhorse who will chase down every ball and run back to assist midfield, he starts every game and gets subbed when the result is in the bag one way or the other.
Crofts will start every game, his coolness in midfield and his ability to get forward and feed or shoot is why he was bought. He plays 90 minutes unless he is injured or the game is won already.
Strike partner for CMS will be rotational, goals scored each week will decide that.
Remaining midfield player probably Dobbie starting most weeks, the oposition's strenght might have a say in that with Bridcutt being the option.
The back four and keeper remains constant as is.
Brighton now have a squad, not a team plus fill ins.
The new players know what it means to be part of a squad and the existing will come to know if they don't already.
I can see us having a good cup run, a chance to bring in some serious money, we will need the squad if that happens. We will get some injuries, we have one now, Hammond comes in from the squad to fill the gap.
The squad rules, the squad will conquer, all hail the squad. , .

He would be a good loan if Gus has a plan to start two out and out strikers, but I wonder if the signings he has made suggest that he isn't going that way.

I can't wait to see how Vicente works with our newly found form up front and the newly aquired quality midfield players.
One possibility, and I stress, 'possibility,' if Vicente is having the same problems he had before pre-season traing, I suppose it might be possible that we do an exchange loan deal from a spanish club. Anyway, Deano will probably prove a shrewd loan signing back to his homeland (needs to make peace with the faithful though after some very out of order nonsense).
With Crofts injured for up to three weeks after this weekend's match he'll likely figure next time out vs Weds.

It looks to me that Gus has changed his thinking from needing the clichéd 'big man up front', to several options who can create chances (such as Orlandi on Saturday for GG's goal). In the interviews of those arriving, I think three of them mentioned the fact that they can do exactly that, as well as scoring goals.
The point being that the goals will be shared around more than last season, hence there is no need to rely on this '20-goal-season striker'.
And yes, Vegas, that theory could very much see Vicente going home, in exchange for either money, or another player. Amazing player, yes, but if there are others doing what he's known for, all the time he's injured, it could be best for all parties. Especially if he would be happier back in Spain...

Orlandi's brief appearance at Turf Moor indicated the step up in quality now available to the squad. We have someone whose skills and movements are far greater than the departed Noone. The latter, while appearing to show great workrate and high endeavour, can only achieve this with an excessive use of energy. Orlandi on the other hand, takes everything in his stride, displaying a far higher class level.
