Stylish Seagulls go top
9:47pm Friday 14th September 2012 in Albion By Brian Owen
Albion will spend tonight on top of the Championship after outclassing Sheffield Wednesday at The Amex.
Wayne Bridge, Craig Mackail-Smith and Will Buckley were on target as the Seagulls swept to a 3-0 win before a record-breaking crowd of 26,594.
Right-back Bruno also took star billing with fabulous assists for the second and third goals.
Albion played some lovely stuff in the first half but needed a big deflection to help them take a 24th-minute lead.
Bridge’s free-kick from just outside the box flicked off a defender breaking off the wall and looped across a bemused Chris Kirkland and inside the far post.
Kirkland had earlier denied Buckley after the winger, on his first start of the season, was sent clear by Dean Hammond’s superb pass.
Albion also failed to pick out a striker on at least three occasions after cutting through and getting to the byline.
There was no problem with the service on 54 minutes though as Bruno charged down the right, cut inside a defender and set up the second for Mackail-Smith.
The striker marked his fifth goal of the season with his new C-Gull celebration.
Bruno then chipped an exquisite pass into the path of Buckley, who clipped a fine finish over Kirkland.
Tomasz Kuszczak secured a welcome clean sheet with a brilliant reflex save from Jay Bothroyd’s header.
Albion sent on recent signings Stephen Dobbie, Andrea Orlandi and David Lopez for the closing stages as they cruised to their third successive win.

Fantastic result. Listened on Radio 5 Live in exile here in Yorkshire. It sounds to have been a brilliant performance.
The commentators were heaping loads of praise on Bruno, what a signing !. Albion's other full back (England international Bridge) certainly played his part too with the first (deflected) goal..
Top of the League (at least for tonight) - well done the Seagulls.

Kuszczak made a couple of superb saves from what little Wednesday were allowed to create. Superlatives for Bruno will be in abundance and rightly so. Adam and Gordon solid and assured. Bridge, another goal, full of attacking mischief, always in 'the right place'. A decent shift from Mr Dicker, who looked to have upped his game and for once did not look out of place. Hammond is back (hello, hello). CMS is reborn, the enigma that is Barnes more than played his part and Buckley showed what we all know he can do and was superb. And last years player of the season is going to be hard to keep in January if he keeps this form up. It was done and dusted by the time the new boys came on but Dobbie looks like he will be everything we hope. As for the negatives... Can't actually think of any. We outclassed, out passed and outlasted what was on paper a very useful side.
Two thoughts occurred, we now have a plan B, C and D. Much more variety in the 'tippy tappy' department (albeit more quality). And what a bench!

In the wake of this result and last weeks, do we really need a target man. Wednesday will take points off our opponents, we beat them with comparative ease but I think that says more about us than them.
CMS went off tonight with some sort of injury as far as I could tell from the Radio 5 Live commentry. Hopefully just a precaution on Poyet's part since we were leading 3-0 at the time.
However with Hosko only just getting back to fitness we would be left with only Barnes and Dobbie (and young Agdestein) potentially if the injury requires CMS to miss any games. As Poyet seems to look on both players (Barnes and Dobbie) mainly as support strikers **** attacking midfielders I feel we could do with another out and out striker. Importantly Poyet is on record as wanting a target man (what better judge) and I can understand his logic off wishing to bring in another striker who offers both something different from what we already have and more presence in the opponents penalty area
The main attributes such a player would need, apart from physical presence, would be the ability to hold the ball up and pace. They don't need to be a 6ft 4in giant...

Unlike last season, with so much in -depth quality due to Gus P's astute transfer dealings I can't really see us losing the plot. Who knows? we could even emulate our South Coast friends/rivals and stay top for the entire season!
Listened to the Match on Seaguls Player the Crowd sounded unbelievable and at times it was hard to hear the Commentary but well worth it.It sounded like a real Team performance with everyone having a great game. When other teams get to watch videos of the game they will be s******g themselves.
Only gripe: SEAGULLS PLAYER.
Despite repeated attempts the **** thing just wouldn't 'kick in', just got to the 'streaming' stage. Finally gave up and reverted to the BBC text. All this at five o clock in the morning. Anyone else out there experience the same problem?
Main thing is we won. . . UP THE ALBION!
