Kuszczak glad he turned down Hornets to join Albion

Tomasz Kuszczak was on loan at Watford last season Tomasz Kuszczak was on loan at Watford last season

Tomasz Kuszczak has revealed he joined Albion after rejecting Watford. The Seagulls’ Polish keeper could have made a permanent move to Vicarage Road early into a loan spell at the end of last season. Former Watford chief Sean Dyche wanted Kuszczak to stay for good but the 30-year-old is glad he kept his options open and signed for Albion from Manchester United in the summer. Kuszczak makes his 100th start in domestic competitions tonight back at the club where he suffered only two defeats in 13 games, including a 2-2 draw against Albion at The Amex in April. He revealed to The Argus: £After maybe three or four games I had a conversation with Sean Dyche and he offered me the opportunity to go and stay for longer at Watford. “I liked the lads and I was honest with the club. They offered the contract, they had their plans, but it was my decision. “I liked Brighton straight away. I wasn’t sure what was going to happen at Watford and the coach who was ready to give me the chance to stay for longer was fired a few weeks afterwards. That is why I think I did the right thing. “I still think Watford is a great club. I enjoyed my time there, because I had been in a difficult position. “I hadn’t played for a couple of months and they gave me a hand at that time, so I am always going to be thankful for that.”

The save from Bothroyd on Friday was the best I've seen an Albion keeper make since we had Kuipers between the sticks. Had the score of been tighter I think he would have received many more plaudits for that one. Liking him a lot and he's got lots of mileage in him age-wise

I like to see a keeper with good distribution. Tomasz got the ball high and wide early against Wednesday. The save wasn't too shabby either.

We`re glad you turned down the Hornets for the Albion! Fantastic keeper who makes you feel safe whenever the opposition get into our half.Promotions depend on good teamplay and consistency and this guy has it in spades.UTA

Tomasz must also like the idea of having such a good back four in front of him, a midfield that will battle back and our strike force to take the pressure off him.

There are some players that you know at the start of the season will earn you points, Tomasz is one of them, Bridge, Bruno and CMS are three more. Tomasz at th eback keeping them out and CMS up front banging them in, life is good.

Tomasz is another albion legend in the making. The defence looks rock solid, it helps when you have the best holding midfielder in the division. Bridcutt. Avoiding injuries is the key, but i dont think we will concede more than a goal a game in the league this season

I think Bridcutt is somewhat of an unsung hero so far this season. Quite understandably CMS has been grabbing the headlines with his goals and Bruno was the star against Wednesday. There is a lot of talk and expectations about and of our new players and our back four and keeper will always be spoken of with high regard.

Bridcutt has been quietly doing his thing, holding the ball up, drstributing to the right place at the right time and been solid in breaking up opponents play. One day a big offer will come in for him, I hope we say no thanks.

Simply the best keeper in the Championship.
Apart from the Watford angle, I think Tomasz was the preferred choice over Kirkland at WBA in a loan situation?

Bridcutt has just brought my friends house so his immediate future lies with the Albion. Heis probably my favourite player, so consistent, the side is set up superbly for his type of skill. I am surprised that the Premiership clubs didn't come calling, if he keeps performing as he is I think they just might.

My favourite player also Alfie and still developing. Hopefully when the Premiership clubs come calling, which they surely will, the Albion will already have made the jump themselves.

I have been impressed with Kuszczak in the two games I have seen this season (I missed the Wednesday one). I hope his form continues since it must help the defence knowing he is between the sticks.
Regarding Bridcutt, who continues to perform, exactly who within the squad would take on his holding midfielder role if he were to become injured ? Any thoughts ?
Turning to tonight's game I think it could be potentially very close. Ladbrokes odds are 11/8 Watford to win and 6/4 the Albion so they reckon Watford will just shade it.
Any news yet that CMS is playing ?
Here's to a positive result and the Seagulls maintaining their current momentum.

Interesting one ballantrrae, never really thought about it. I suppose it would be Hammond or Crofts, or maybe even Calderon. Just hope it doesn't happen.

Bridcutt deffo an unsung hero. Goes about his job. Did Gus play with Claude Makalele at Chelski as he is that sort of player. We been fortunate with his lack of injury. I agree with you peeps as cover, Calderon, Hammond, Crofts, Dicker I'm sure could fill the void - lets hope he stays an ever present though.
2 - 0 Victors tonight

I am wodering what the bookies are seeing that I, and most of you, are not seeing.

Watford's defense has been letting in goals, yes mostly away but a defense is a defense home or away.
Watford concede a lot of free kicks due to fouls. Free kicks can be converted to goals and Watford are really bad at defending against set pieces.
Giving away a lot of fouls suggests to me that the players are either not quick enough or not good enough.
Brighton have been scoring goals for fun in recent games, home or away, and we are not giving up too many.
Looking at the two squads and taking into account recent form, Brighton have to be favs and the draw second best. Home advantage does count for something but only if you are playing well.
On paper will this be a tough game, yes. Will the crowd help Watford, yes. Player for player are Brighton better or performing better, yes.
I just don't see how the bookies are evaluating the two teams and coming up with the odds they are.
Momentum is important and we are on a roll, Watford are not.
If I were making the odds for this match I would have Bton at 5/4 fav, Draw 6/4 and a Watford win 13/8.

Stuff the bloody bookies,i dont listen to them for knowledge of my team, they have their own agenda.Vegas i love your passion and stats for our club ,and anyone that goes to the bother (i do) is just proving their love of the Albion,we cant all get it right all the time ,otherwise my only post on the first day of the season would be BRIGHTON WILL WIN .Imho that just happens to be what i think tonight.UTA

Thanks Tug509.

As none of us are on the inside we can only look from the outside. Stats might not be the favourite things for some but they do tell a story.
As once was said, "football is a funny old game," and no matter what the stats suggest there will always be upsets, games where the players just don't perform, or they do but the ball just won't go into the net, Watford away last year tells us that.

I bet you a dollar to a penny that any stat I quote on here Gus has the same stat.

I honestly can't see Brighton losing tonight, I even think a draw would not be a good result. Brighton are so much better than last year that playing away is just another game. There will be games when a point will be good enough away from home but this match to me is not one of them.

All the numbers point to a win.
