Greer: Forget about the league table
9:00am Thursday 20th September 2012 in Albion By Brian Owen
Gordon Greer and Adam El-Abd make a point after Liam Bridcutt was fouled at Watford
Gordon Greer has urged Albion to forget about the league table – and learn lessons from this time last year.
The Seagulls are third, just a point off the top of the Championship, after their battling 1-0 win at Watford on Tuesday.
They go to The Den on Saturday to face a Millwall side languishing in 21st after a 2-0 home defeat to Cardiff.
Greer still remembers how Albion slipped down the table after leading the way in the opening weeks of 2011-12.
So he will warn his team to expect another battle – and remind them the league standings mean little after six games.
The skipper said: “There is no point even looking at the table now.
“We did really well last year and had a bad time so it is up to us to learn from last season and improve and just see where it takes us.
“We can play a lot better than we did at Watford. We didn’t want to go there and defend for 90 minutes.
“Hopefully we get our passing game going and are strong defensively as we were at Watford.”
Greer will pay little attention to the Lions’ lowly status, level on points with Gianfranco Zola's men.
He added: “I don’t think people thought Watford would be an easy game.
“All the teams in this league make it really tough, “That was proved last year when we went to Coventry, who were bottom, and lost.
“The teams that do well in this division go to places like Watford and don’t play well and get the three points.
“It is early in the season and we are not getting carried away but it was a satisfying win at Watford.”

It says a lot that we have only conceded three goals to date, one at Hull the other two being an own goal and a penalty. Our defence is 'mean'.

The club want the fans excited they want us to believe, that's what puts bums on seats at home and away.

Those matches yielded a total of 220 goals, an average of just over 3 per match.
I have included Brighton's matches and goals so not perfectly accurate.
Average number of goals conceded per match just over 3, Brighton average 0.5 per game.
Hard not to look at the tables if you are a fan.
