Poyet set to let Lopez loose on Lions
9:10am Friday 21st September 2012 in Albion By Andy Naylor
David Lopez is being lined up for more game time
ALBION boss Gus Poyet is close to unleashing David Lopez.
The former Athletic Bilbao midfielder has been given less game time so far than any of the new signings but that could be about to change.
Lopez was an unused sub at Watford on Tuesday after coming on for the last eight minutes of the Seagulls’ previous victory at home to Sheffield Wednesday.
The 30-year-old could be more involved, either from the start or the bench, at Millwall tomorrow. Poyet said: “David is really close. He didn’t play any part on Tuesday, because of the type of game it was.
“There are games that will be more suitable for David. “I think he has got a great chance to play on Saturday, for example.
“We’ve talked about it and he understands, so everything is fine, but he will play sooner or later.
“He knows more about the pace of the game here now, because in training it has been at that level.”
Poyet is using his own experience of coming to England as a player from foreign shores to manage Lopez and the timing of his introduction.
The Uruguayan said: “You can go back to any foreigner that has come to England.
“Some people will adapt in one week, some in six months or even a year, because things are different.
“Especially because of his qualities and with my experience I am trying to do it my way in making decisions for him. There is going to be a moment when he is in and then it’s up to him but it’s closer than people think.”
Welsh international midfielder Andrew Crofts is back in contention for Millwall after three weeks out with hamstring trouble but injury-plagued Spanish playmaker Vicente is not scheduled to return to full training for another ten days.

Do you think it possible that Gus, at times, will make tactical changes due to the opposition, regardless of our previous results against other teams.
Gus seems to have options as to how we play, options we may not have had last year, to make use of those new options would it not suggest that players would come in and out of the starting line up no matter what.

What do you think?
PS - I have seen a couple of MLS games now and the standard is pretty good. I must've just caught two bad teams

There was a good MLS game yesterday. Glad to know that you are taking an interest.
From the accounts I have read the general concensus of opinion is that Orlandi had a tough nights work against Watford, Gus might want to rest him.
From what I have read that Gus has said about Lopez, and taking into account the history of Lopez, he will add something new, much as Vicente did when he started with us.
I think Lopez will get a fair amount of playing time saturday, maybe an early second half sub or indeed start the match. If Kazenga is 100% he might start for Orlandi and the Lopez replaces Kazenga.
You don't get match fit without playing matches and I would think that Lopez has a great chance of starting against Birmingham. ,

The thought of Vicente on the left and Lopez on the right with Dobbie attacking from a an advanced midfield role is unbelievable. I'm sure Macca could get a few goals there.
I have to agree with Gus, we do look the business

Vicente, it is reported, should be fit enough to join the squad for training after the Birmingham match. That match is the first of three in about 8 days or so, then there is a two week break.
It seems to me that Lopez and Vicente could end up job sharing as getting 90 minutes out of Vicente has proven difficult.
I have my own opinon about Vicente but, if he is fit and his head is in the right place, then it would be hard not to play him, I am just not sure that he and Lopez would be on the park at the same time.
Like you I think Dobbie will play just behind CMS and that he will make an impact.
Options a plenty in the coming couple of months.

I think it's time to erase the memory of this game by beating them tomorrow.
I trust that when Gus gives his pre-match team talk he will remind them of this match.
Gus likes to do a spot of erasing.

The team is nicknamed the "Seagulls" or "Albion". The team has historically played in blue and white stripes, though this changed to all white briefly in the 1970s (in the Freddie Goodwin era) and again to plain blue during the club's most successful spell in the 1980s. Crystal Palace is considered the club's main rival (although the teams are 40 miles apart).
Founded in 1901, Brighton played their early professional football in the Southern League before being elected to the Football League in 1920. The club enjoyed greatest prominence between 1979 and 1983 when they played in the First Division and reached the 1983 FA Cup Final, losing to Manchester United after a replay. They were relegated from the top division in the same season. Mismanagement brought Brighton close to relegation from the Football League to the Conference which they narrowly avoided in 1997 and 1998. A boardroom takeover saved Brighton from liquidation, and following successive promotions they returned to the second tier of English football in 2002 and have played in the second and third tiers ever since.

Pack him off to the club in Spain, if they still want him, and get him off the wage bill.

“They have a number of quality players. Craig Mackhail-Smith and Ashley Barnes are quality strikers. Liam Brooker in the midfield who is a dogged defensive midfielder that can play well on the ball.”
He goes on to say that his biggest critic is himself... This is in part no doubt due to his failing memory. Brooker...? I can't seeing him posing too much of a threat on Saturday. Maybe he won't even remember which team he's playing for... Fingers crossed.

It must be time for the club to call time of Vicente. He is a very expensive player wages wise and clearly his fitness probably in mind more than body as questionable.

How much are his wages?
You seem to know a lot about him and his physical and mental state. Do you know him personally?
We all know Vicente has to be treated with caution, but then we also know what he is capable of. Talk of getting rid of him is stupid, in my opinion.
Strength in depth is required in this league in spades, and, when fit, Vicente could make all the difference in getting extra points on the board.

Interesting that the manager sees this game as a proper introduction for Lopez. It probably would not have been the case if Harry Cripps was playing! - that's one for the older fans.
I think its just that the manager needs to get him started asap whoever we are up against, so he can assess the squad in its entirety.

Saying less is more, really?
I just checked out the last 9 threads, I guess you said a lot, this is your only posting over all 9 threads.
You are saying that I post too much, if we all followed your example this forum would be blank.
Your attitude of, 'I don't do it so you shouldn't either,' is known as BS over here, yes I really do live in Vegas.
If a have an opinion on the team post it. If you have a thought on a match post it.
If you choose to sit on your hand and say nothing, then don't sound off at those that do post.
If I have more posts than some on here, or even all, it's because I choose to contribute rather than just sit and take cheap shots at others.

Goals scored count if all is equal. So yes a draw can change things. 0-0 as opposed to 1-1.

He has been "injured" for most of the time he has been with us and was "injured" for Valencia for most of the two/three seasons before that. He doesn't have major injuries, just "niggles". Some players can manage with "niggles" some can't.
We will not get a dozen games out of him if he stays and he will just walk away at the end of his contract back to Spain. How can that make good business sense?!
There must surely come a point when realisation dawns. With the players we have we are managing quite well without him and if someone else (ie the club up the road from where his home is in Spain) will take over his contract then that is what we should do.
But then, what do I know!!
