Hammond aims to end long wait for a goal

Dean Hammond has targeted a return to scoring form for Albion – five years after his last goal for the club.

The midfielder nearly found the net in both appearances since rejoining the Seagulls on loan from Southampton.

He had two efforts disallowed for offside against Sheffield Wednesday on his debut and went close three times at Watford on Tuesday.

Hammond said: “It would be nice to score. Everyone loves scoring goals and I’ve had a few chances. “I have been encouraged to get further forward and get in the box. I played more of a holding role at Southampton last year, so I didn’t really get those opportunities, but I enjoy playing either way and hopefully the goals will come.

“If I get the chances then hopefully I can take them in the future.”

Hammond gets another opportunity on the 300th League start of his career at Millwall tomorrow, without the extra burden of the captaincy.

He admitted: “I am really enjoying not having it. “I’ve enjoyed it in the past, here when I was younger and at Colchester and Southampton, but Gordon Greer is a fantastic captain.

“He is brilliant to play under. “It feels different but maybe I am enjoying that little bit of freedom of not having that role.”

Don't you rave off Baldy. Hammond is the very man to lead us to glory.

Well if he is to score soon then tomorrow would be a good time to do it.

The numbers suggest that Brighton should win, certainly on current form but I can see this being another tough away game.

Yeah I'll take a Hammond goal.

Completely off topic, but a highly hypothetical question to ponder:

If the Saints fired Adkins and appointed Gus, would you want Adkins instead?

I still see Chelsea or Spurs as an eventual destination for our manager. It certainly will not be Soton and I think we can pass on Adkins. Continuing the off topic theme, I'm beginning to think Spurs may be some way off for Gus.
AVB may yet confound those who wrote him off as recently as a week ago - three games to survive etc. I think there are signs that he is building a bit of a special team. Hope so, then we can retain our man for as long as possible.

I don't know how I can think of a replacement for Gus as I don't yet know just how good he is.

Gus might well stay with us for some time, and we might well get promoted this year, so then we would see how good he is at the top level.
Gus is a bit like our team, they are both good enough to get us where we are today and might both be good enough to get us to the top.

The first year after promotion to the prem division is probably the biggest test of any manager. Not sure Adkins will pass the test but he is a very good championship manager.

Will that be in the Premier League or the Championship, Slugger. I fear there is more chance of the latter than the former, but you never know. Watched Saints play Man U on the TV over here in the USA and you were desperately unlucky not to get something from that game. The commentators kept going on about Adkins blundering by taking Lambert off when he was the guy tracking back Van Persie for corners and set pieces. Fancy you to beat Villa tomorrow. Best of luck!

Adkins is the manager of the most consistent team in the Premiership. Played 4 lost 4, you can't be more consistent than that..
He'll be gone by the end of Oct,

I wonder how many of the fans would say that a point is enough from tomorrow's game. I wonder if Gus would take a point if offered before the match.

Current form suggests that we should win but have we had enough matches for current form to mean a lot. Blackburn got beat at home today (friday) I doubt that was expected.

I am thinking 2-0 Brighton, just on form, and maybe a 1-1 draw based on Millwall's desire to stop the rot.

I am waiting for the day when we reproduce the silky skills that were on show against Wednesday, but away from home. That will be the day we really announce ourselves to the rest of the teams. The day will come.

I can see Hammond getting double figures this season, delighted he's back with us. Would have taken 4 points from Watford and Millwall, so a draw today would be a decent result, funny side Millwall, always capable of putting a good run together, hopefully won't start today.
