El-Abd: This team is the best
9:30am Monday 24th September 2012 in Albion By Andy Naylor
Adam El-Abd celebrates his goal at The Den
Adam El-Abd has saluted the current Albion side as the best in his 18 years at the club.
The long-serving defender was full of praise for his team-mates after his first goal for 22 months helped secure a 2-1 victory at Millwall for the table-topping Seagulls.
El-Abd, 28, told The Argus: “It is most definitely the best. Our team is strong, our squad is strong and I think that is a great sign for the future.
“It’s scary really how far the club has come in such a short space of time under Gus (Poyet). It’s early, early days and we are not getting carried away but I really do feel we can be there or thereabouts.
“We have got some calibre in the squad and it’s great to be part of it.”
The extra quality injected into the squad by Poyet’s summer transfer business was emphasised by a crucial late save from Tomasz Kuszczak which preserved Albion’s fifth straight victory.
The Polish international denied former Seagull Chris Wood a second goal on his full debut late on for ten-man Millwall after they had substitute Chris Taylor sent-off.
“Tomasz has been outstanding already,” said El-Abd. “In the seven games we’ve had in the league he has already won us points.
“The less we ask of him the better because that will mean we are doing our jobs in the back four, but when he is called upon he has been absolutely fantastic.”

I have to say, I was surprised when El-Abd got the nod over Dunk at the beginning of the season. Very happy to have been proved wrong, as along with the rest of the defence, he's been immense. Long may it continue

Agree with all posts about Adam. A few years ago he did not have a clue about how to defend or play football and was arguably one of our worst players. Now he is comfortable and assured on the ball and fully committed to the cause. Fully expect him to retain his position for the entire season, barring injury!
For my money he was always a prospect, and I backed that up with my own money when I spnsored his shirt three seasons running at Withdean. Very happy that he is still at the club, and in the first team, and in the Egypt squad. Magnificent attitude to go with his footballing talent.

Depends also whether Marlon King is fit to play as he can be very dangerous. My fear is that it will be a 0-0 or 1-1 draw or even a 0-1 defeat, but I hope we scrape the win we ought to get - say, 2-1.
Hope that yawl don't think it will be a walk-over on Sat. many teams have turned things around before. Hope you're right though and we thrash them too!
Of course, there is the possibility that if the players don't rate their new manager (Chris Hughton their manager last year clearly's a good manager), then Birmingham may well continue to plummet until Lee Clarke is sacked, in which case Brighton will also profit from the players lack of motivation. So, we could also put 5 past them. Of course it also depends on whether CMS and Bruno have recovered so it might well be a routine 2-0 victory.
On the other hand........yawn!
PS one wag suggested 10-1, based on us beating Barnsley 5-1 (who beat Brum 5-0).
Any other forecasts?

It's been said before but Adam is Gus' finest achievement. The change in his ability since Gus arrived is quite amazing and if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have thought it was possible at that stage of a player's career. AEA must now be one of the first names on the teamsheet - totally dependable and totally committed. Keep it up Adam as you are now a very fine player.

I would say that about Dean hammond too, his first few games showed that he had a lot of talent and potential, but didn't develop properly until he went to Southampton. The other Mark who posts on here (or used to) was fairly accurate in his summation of the previous coaching staff and the youth and soccer schools coaching.
