Dobbie: Beware Birmingham backlash

Stephen Dobbie could start today Stephen Dobbie could start today

Stephen Dobbie has warned Albion to beware of a backlash from Birmingham at The Amex tonight.

The Seagulls have the chance to consolidate their Championship lead, with another home game to follow against struggling Ipswich on Tuesday.

Injury-hit Birmingham were trounced 5-0 by Barnsley at St Andrew’s in front of the Sky cameras last Saturday but Dobbie is guarding against a response to that humiliation from Lee Clark’s side.

The Scot, in contention for his full debut, said: “There always will be. I think every manager gets the team going after that kind of defeat but we are playing well and we are high on confidence. It’s a matter of trying to maintain that.

“We have got two games at home coming up and if we win the first one we’ve got a good chance of winning the second one as well.”

Albion could be playing catch-up in the 5.30pm kick-off against the club former Swansea striker Dobbie nearly joined last season when Chris Hughton was in charge.

Huddersfield, Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool will leapfrog them if they win their afternoon games.

Dobbie, who scored his last goal against Birmingham in the play-offs in May, said: "Before I went to Blackpool I had an opportunity to maybe go on loan there but then, when Blackpool came in, it was a no-brainer because it was closer to home and I knew what they were all about.

"It's a massive club. They are going through a little sticky patch just now. Hopefully we can continue our good form."

Albion's home game against Watford on December 29 is now a 5.20pm kick-off for Sky coverage.

The Independent has written us off for today’s game! Apparently we are only top because we have beaten poor opponents and they fully expect Birmingham to bounce back. The safe money is on a Brum win according to them. Birmingham have a make-shift back four due to injuries and leaked five at home in their last match to Barnsley who we beat 5-1!

Are they judging this in gut instinct because the stats should put us favourites? Fair enough there is a chance we could lose today but to write us off when we are the in-form team sitting pretty at the top of league is ludicrous. National papers just vote for the big name teams and don't put any rhyme or reason into.

Sorry just peeves me off!

Any side would wish to bounce back after a 0-5 home defeat to unfancied opponents. But it's to be hoped that the Albion is now capable of withstanding the likes of CMS and Bruno being out and can adapt their play accordingly.
Birmingham really don't know what to expect, and nor do we fans, but Mr Poyet will provide all the answers come 5.30.

Birmingham have been beaten by Sheffield Weds, Watford, Barnsley and in the League cup Coventry. They have also just about managed to get a 1-0 win against bottom club Peterborough.

So the Independent reason behind writing us off with; we've only beaten weaker teams doesn't stick when the Brum have been beaten by these very same weaker teams.

Using this Independent theory properly, unlike the Independent's conlusion we should walk it.

At last the sleeps are over and back to the Amex for the next installment of our quest for premiership footie can't wait !I foresee a hard fought game, Brum are not going to lay down for us so we need to be at our best i think they will come for a 0-0 so its up to us to break them down so the twelfth man will be needed, a hoarse Sunday is predicted.SEAGULLS

Birmingham's reaction to last week depends on motivational therapy by Lee Clarke. Having seen his post match interview last week he himself needs a dose of therapy. Shell-shocked didn't even come into it - he was ready for the men in white coats to come and take him away haha! (For older generation readers!) Hopefully any medicine he was prescribed hasn't yet kicked in... Fingers crossed.

its definitely age where we could trip up but if we are going to be genuine contenders we should put them away by a couple of goals.

I`ve been reading the Birmingham Mail all week, and they seem like a team in a bit of a mess to say the least. The fans dont have any time for Lee Clark, the new Defender Robinson is despised by the Blues for breaking one of their lads jaw a few years back, and is tipped by them for a possible red card today. They sent back at least half of their ticket allocation, plus they have a few injuries, all in all their bad news is our good fortune, not that i wish to gloat that would be bad taste, but 3 points for the Albion is paramount.UTA

I really don't mind those that warn of a possible backlash havng their voices heard, just so long as they don't forget about who we are, BHA, where we are, top, how good our defense is, as tight as a ducks rear end and how many of our players can score goals, all of them.
This match today isn't about whether or not Birmingham can bounce back, it's about how many we will beat them by. 2-0 Brighton, maybe 3-1.

I expect them to come at us from the start and then tire. It won't be a walkover, though being a home game we should win this one, but a draw should keep us top.

Today we win 1 nil and the others will draw. i expect Blackburn to lose so we will be 4 or 5 pts clear tonight
Dobbie or Orlandi to score the winner
All together now we are top of the league.
