Buckley: We miss Macca

Will Buckley admits Albion are missing the predatory instincts of their top marksman.

Now he has set himself the target of at least seven more goals this season to help share the attacking load.

Albion must again make do without six-goal Craig Mackail-Smith, who hit the winner at Derby last season, when they return to Pride Park on Saturday.

He is due to return from a hamstring injury for the visit of Middlesbrough after the international break.

Buckley, whose goal saved a point against Ipswich on Tuesday, admitted: “I think when Macca is not there you can see what he brings to the team.

“When players are not on the pitch, that is when you realise how much they mean to us.

“But we have got a big squad so hopefully the players who are filling in can produce the goods like he was doing.”

Buckley came off the bench to net from close range against Ipswich.

His 80th-minute strike headed off a second successive home defeat.

It was one of the few times an Albion player got into the heart of the six-yard box in the absence of Mackail-Smith.

But they are down to third in the Championship ahead of the trip to Derby.

Buckley, who has scored twice this term, revealed: “I want to get more goals. I always want to score goals and hopefully I can beat the eight I got last season.

“It was good play down the right and I just thought ‘I’ve got to get in the box’and it just landed to me.”

We really sould not have to rely so heavily on one player - for obvious reasons. From a distance it is a bit hard to see where Dobbie fits in when a big target striker was what we obviously needed, and still do - badly. I agree with those who would like to see the two DS strikers givena chance off the bench if we are having another first half struggle at Derby. If those on the pitch are not producing what have we got to lose, and what is the point of a DS squad if players doing well in it are not given a chance. A win at Derby is pivotal I think

Surely Toby or George are worth some playing time. CMS was obviously going to be missed but we don't seem to function so well without him.

We also miss having a right back that Gordon Greer will pass to.

CMS doesnt stop working.. doesnt stop running.. he inspires the whole team to a bigger effort.. we miss him coz of that as well as his predatory instincts.

It is a pity that this hamstring injury of Macca's has broken the flow of the way the team play.
Will Buckley is capable of causing havoc at Pride Park on Saturday. Dobbie and Orlandi will both be another game 'into the team' and Bruno may well be back.
We will overcome.

Toby/Geroge/Dickenso
n either of these guys have got to be worth a place on the bench as an option if it's not working up front over Ryan Harley.

We win five on the bounce with CMS but without a target man, then we lose one and draw one without CMS, two games we would have expected to get six points from. We need another CMS. .
