Tomasz Kuszczak has urged his national team to give him a chance to shine in friendly action.

Poland play England in a World Cup qualifier in Warsaw on Tuesday with PSV’s Przemyslaw Tyton expected to keep his place between the sticks.

But the Albion keeper reckons he should get an opportunity to impress when they face South Africa in a friendly tomorrow.

Kuszczak has the best goals-against record in the Championship this season and has spent the week training with his national team in Warsaw.

He said: “I would be very disappointed if I didn’t get a chance in one of the games.

“Friday is a friendly game and you go to the national team to play for your country.

“I think I should get a chance to play some bit of this game but you never know.

“I will try to convince the coach to give me a chance to pay at least the friendly game or part of the friendly.”

Readers of a leading Polish sports website were last night voting almost two to one in favour of Tyton getting the start against England.

An online poll at the website run by top sports newspaper Przeglad Sportowy saw 66% of voters opt for Tyton to face the English while 34% backed Kuszczak.

Tyton is out of favour with his top-flight Dutch club and Poland’s goalkeeping coach Andrzej Dawidziuk admitted: “Both goalkeepers have their plusses and minuses.

“Tom’s biggest advantage is that he is playing regularly for his club and is playing well. But the downside is he hasn’t played foer the national team for quite a long time.”
