Boro striker out of Albion clash

Lukas Jutkiewicz scores against Albion last season Lukas Jutkiewicz scores against Albion last season

Albion keeper Tomasz Kuszczak’s chances of a third clean sheet in six matches at The Amex have been lifted by an injury to a fellow countryman.

Middlesbrough’s in-form Polish striker Lukas Jutkiewicz has been ruled out of Saturday’s clash against the Seagulls by a knee injury sustained in training.

Jutkiewicz scored for Coventry against Albion last season before a £1.3 million move to the North-East in January and has hit four goals in his last four outings for Boro.

Albion boss Gus Poyet, who has known Jutkiewicz since he was a teenager at Swindon, has revealed the 23-year-old featured on his list of potential signings.

Poyet said: “He was definitely on the list because he was one of the target men available at a reasonable price but we never made any approach.

“He was very young at Swindon but you could see already then that he was big, strong and difficult to mark. He’s got better and better with experience.

“He is a very important player for them (Boro) but I would prefer players not to be injured. It’s been the same for us. We didn’t have Macca (Craig Mackail-Smith) for a few games.”

Kuszczak is expected to be on the bench as cover for Przemyslaw Tyton for Poland in tonight’s World Cup qualifier against England in Warsaw.

Whats in a name? Lucas Jutkiewicz, born Southampton, although paternal grandfather is Polish.

Really clever observation that, but Southampton sounds bit better than Becks over the hill?

They have Emnes who is a quality striker, still gonna be a tough game.

I remember Emnes giving us the most trouble last year and we will probably get Scott Mc Donald with some thing to prove, so I’m not sure we are that much better off.

I doubt this game will be draw either way. Boro are like spiders, just as scared of us as we are of them.

Should be a good game and a well thought contest

Ill second that.

There is not a single thing we can do to influence what team Mr Mowbray puts out on saturday so i for one am not going to give it a seconds thought. Id rather let them worry about us. What I am interested in is how our guys are looking? especially the likes of Cms, Crofts, Buckley and Vicente after their layoffs with injury. Uta

I'm a tad suspicious about Gus's last comment in not having CMS for a few games. Is this morse code for him not being available for Saturday? Paranoia? I hope so.

All of Albion's injured were back in full training today, all except one that is. No prizes. #bhafc

I think he's more likely referring to the previous few games, where CMS wasn't available due to injury...

I am starting to get a bit feed-up with Crofts. Since he’s come back he has done nothing but get injured , unless its Buckley.

You can pull that tin hat off. The guy is clearly a fantastic player but can we afford to carry passengers both from a wage perspective and from a squad point of view. Half of me thinks his heart isn't it from the fiasco of him resigning for the club in the summer. We shall wait and see..

Put your tin hat back on!! :)

VR would have unlocked both Brum and Ipswich and we miss him more than CMS.

He's played more games than Will Hoskins in the same amount of time and the consensus among most posters on here is that we can't wait for Will to return. Why the angst then for VR? Yes it's frustrating that he's not fit, but the number of goals / assists Vincente contributed when he did play last season shows how important he may be to our chances of doing well this term.

With hindsight, playing him for the whole game against the Swindon cloggers was a significant mistake....

BHArulz says...

Hoskins situation is a bit different as he has been out on loan for a lot of last season, with regard VR your dead right but my point with him is with his wages off the wage bill could we have signed someone similar without the constant flow of injuries. I find the whole situation a little strange.

Would I be right in saying that most on here think that Vicente is still injured, injured to the point of not being able to report for training?

VegasSeagull says...
12:11pm Wed 17 Oct 12

I think Gus gave us a hint that this might happen when he last reported on Vicente's condition. As I remember it he said that the player would return to training as of yesterday but, 'anything could happen during those three days prior,' seems he was right.

I'm slightly surprised no-one's picked up on Gus' statement that this is a striker was on the club's radar and regarded highly (and still is), was a fair price, but we then didn't show any real interest in acquiring him - and the lad currently has four in four while we continue to be a striker short...
Wonder why we didn't pursue it...?

mr punch says...
2:13pm Wed 17 Oct 12

I reckon we shoud all just forget about VR for the time being so that when(and more likely if) he returns it will be like a surprise. Besides, the constant is he isn't he carp is getting a tad boring now. UTA

Just see Ipswich, who have very limited funds available have landed Nigel Reo-Coker on 3 month loan,he had 7 seasons in premiership-could he have done a job for albion? Still no sign of any target man-its been about 18 months now. Gus does not seem to be able to pin this one down.

As I posted on here earlier
Lack of correct information about the condition of missing players leads to wild speculation
The club should be a bit more forthright
with current status etc

I think Ipswich have played a blinder with this signing but as I posted last week, we are awash with midfield players. The failure to sign a quality target man either permanently or on a lengthy loan, since promotion, has long baffled me - Paynter and Vokes being patently very average at this level.
Willie, Willie Irvine's posting today is particularly apposite.
