Elliott Bennett insists he is not envious of Norwich’s promotion to the Premier League.

Bennett wanted to sign for the Canaries in January but Albion rejected a bid of around £1 million for their top goal provider.

Norwich and the Seagulls’ former captain Andrew Crofts clinched promotion from the Championship on Monday.

Bennett told The Argus: “There is no envy whatsoever. That’s not something that is in me to be envious. What an achievement for them, getting promoted back-to-back.

“If we can copy their success I think everyone would be happy. It just shows how a winning mentality, a good team and good group of players can achieve success. I’m buzzing for Crofty, because he is a friend of mine and everyone at the club wished him well.”

Albion fans now fear Norwich will rekindle their interest in Bennett in the summer.

The former Wolves winger said: “I don’t know. At that time they were in the Championship and now they are in the league of the promised land really.

“That opens a much broader choice of players they can attract to the football club.

“I am not thinking about anything other than enjoying today’s game (at Notts County), the celebration (parade) on Sunday and then going off on holiday and looking back on an unbelieveable season, coming back and working hard to get into the Brighton team in the Championship.”
