Dutch-born goalkeeper who signed for Albion from Bristol Rovers in the summer of 2000 and has since enjoyed three promotions with the club. Had loan spells with Hull City and Boston in the last four seasons.

Highly-rated young goalkeeper who has won England under-18 honours. Awarded a two-year pro contract in 2006 and is hoping this will be his breakthrough season with Albion.
Andrew Whing
Andrew Whing

Joined Albion permanently in the summer of 2007 on a free transfer from Coventry City. Whing enjoyed a successful loan spell with Albion during the latter part of 2006. Manager Dean Wilkins tried to buy Whing during the January transfer window and was delighted to land him in the summer.

Paul Reid

Versatile Australian who joined Albion as a midfielder from Bradford City during the 2003-04 season but has since played numerous games for the club at right-back. Has Australia under-20 honours, having started his career with Wollongong Wolves. Missed virtually all of the 2006-07 season through injury.
Adam El-Abd
Adam El-Abd

DoB: 11/9/84

Can play right-back, centre-back or even in the centre of midfield. A product of the club's youth system, El-Abd is a no-nonsense player who has become a first-team regular over the last two seasons. His elder brother, Joe, is a rugby union professional.
Guy Butters
Guy Butters

DoB: 30/10/69

Vastly experienced centre back who started his career with Tottenham, where he made 35 League appearances and also played for England under-21s. Also played for Portsmouth and Gillingham before joining Albion in 2002.
Joel Lynch

DoB: 3/10/87

Highly-rated left-sided defender who has won England youth honours. Born in Eastbourne, Lynch made his debut as an 18-year-old during the 2005-06 campaign and has been the subject of interest from a number of bigger clubs since.
Adam Hinshelwood
Adam Hinshelwood

DoB: 8/1/84

Another product of the club's youth system, Hinshelwood was called into the England under-21 squad in 2005 but has suffered dreadful injury problems over the last two years. His uncle Martin is Albion's director of football while his grandfather Wally, father Paul, brother Paul and cousin Danny have all been professionals.

Enjoyed a testimonial against Reading in July after 11 years in Albion's first team. Mayo has played in all defensive positions for Albion, as well as central midfielder and on the left. He came through Albion's youth system.
Sam Rents is among those released

Maybe his debut last season, his first as a professional, and played more than 20 games at left-back. Another youth team product, Rents scored his first goal against Northwich in the FA Cup last season and created a number of others with his deadly set-piece deliveries.
Tommy Elphick

Brighton-born defender who was part of Albion's 2005-06 youth squad which reached the quarter finals of the FA Youth Cup. Made his debut at Reading that season and is now pushing for a regular place. His father Gary was a Stoke City professional while his brother, also Gary, has played for Albion.
Dean Hammond

DoB: 7/3/83

Albion's player of the year last season, his fifth with the club. Another youth product, Hammond is a classy midfielder who can also score goals. He was the Seagulls' leading scorer in the League last season when he was also made captain.

Dean Cox

Enjoyed a tremendous breakthrough season last year when he scored ten goals from midfield. Signed a contract extension in the summer which will keep him at the club until 2010. Another product of the youth team.
Tommy Fraser

Made his debut at Millwall in September 2006. Captain of Albion's youth team that reached the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup in 2005-06. A combative midfielder, Tommy played opposite his brother James when Albion beat Worthing in last season's Sussex Senior Cup final.
Doug Loft
Doug Loft

DoB: 25/12/86

Signed from Hastings United in 2006, scoring his first goal on the final day of that season against Stoke City. Loft began his career with Gillingham.
Nicky Forster

Vastly experienced striker who joined Albion in the summer of 2007 from Hull City for £75,000. Started his career locally with Horley Town and has also played for Gillingham, Brentford, Birmingham, Reading, Ipswich and England under-21s.
Jake Robinson

Popular forward who became Albion’s youngest ever scorer when he netted in an LDV Vans Trophy match against Forest Green in October 2003, aged just 16. Top scorer last season with 12 goals in all competitions, including two hat-tricks. Another youth team product.
Alex Revell

Joined Albion in the summer of 2006 from non-league Braintree Town and enjoyed an excellent debut season, scoring ten goals and winning the affection of fans for his hard-working displays. Started his career with Cambridge United.
Gary Hart

Hart has played in most positions for Albion since signing from non-league Stansted in 1998. This is his tenth season with the club and he has played nearly 350 League games for the club in attack, midfield or at right-back. A hugely popular player with fans.
Bas Savage

Signed in January 2007 from Gillingham and soon became a cult figure with supporters for his moondance celebrations after scoring. Started his career with Walton and Hersham, Savage has also played for Reading, Wycombe, Bury and Bristol City.
Nathan Elder
Nathan Elder

Position: Forward
DoB: 01/08/87

Signed on Christmas Day 2007 from non-league Billericay and scored on his first start for the club against Cheltenham on the final day of last season. Albion have high hopes for the big forward.

Joe Gatting

DoB: 25/11/87

Prolific scorer for the youth and reserves, Gatting netted five times for the first team last season. The son of former Albion defender Steve, Gatting made his debut during the 2005-06 campaign. His uncle is former England cricket captain Mike Gatting.
