Norris looks to bright new era

David Norris wants his farewell meeting to be the start of a bright new era for Eastbourne Eagles.

The club’s record points scorer will officially say goodbye to racing on Saturday, May 15 (7.30pm).

He is already lining up some big names for what will be an individual meeting at Arlington.

As well as marking the end of Norris’s 21-year career, the fixture will also be the last to be staged on a Saturday night.

Eastbourne will switch to Thursday racing in June and Norris said: “Maybe it’s a new beginning as well.

“It’s not intentional that I’ve got the last Saturday meeting but I suppose it’s quite fitting.

“If Eastbourne go on from this in the right direction and make a fresh start, I’ll be delighted.”

Norris, now working as an electrician, would have loved to be given the first meeting of the season.

He said “This is my second choice of date and it works out well. There’s no GP that weekend and there are a couple of Elite League meetings on the Friday so people will be in the country and hopefully I have the chance to get some good riders.

“The month of May is also pretty sparse in terms of fixtures at Eastbourne so hopefully people will be keen to turn out for this one.”
