The arrival of Saqlain Mushtaq can only help develop the careers of Sussex's young spinners, according to coach Mark Robinson.

Saqlain, 30, joined the county on a two-year contract last month which means there will be four slow bowlers on the 19-man staff including off-spinners Ollie Rayner and Tom Smith and leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed.

Robinson says the pair will get opportunities despite the presence of the two world-class Pakistanis.

And he says the arrival of Saqlain has already had a positive effect on Rayner and Smith.

He said: "Not only is Saqlain a quality performer he is also a great person. He has been working with Ollie and Tom and they will definitely benefit from him being around.

"Ollie and Tom are still very young and we hope they will be around for a long time to come. But if they perform as we know they can they will get chances this season.

"They showed last year that they are good enough to perform when those opportunities come along."
