Hailsham manager Ken McCreadie will be back in the dugout in a fortnight despite being found guilty of assault on an opposition player.

McCreadie was found guilty by a disciplinary commission on Tuesday of assaulting Eastbourne United's Matt Jones after his side's 2-1 defeat on Boxing Day.

The Scot was given a 56-day touchline ban, backdated to January 8 when he was first suspended from all football pending the outcome of the hearing. He can resume managerial duties in two weeks once the balance of the suspension is served.

McCreadie said: "I was shocked and disappointed by the guilty verdict but I accept the punishment and want to move on from this.

"I want to get on with winning football matches and getting Hailsham back up the league.

"I can be hands-on for the remainder of the season as it is just a touchline ban. I can do what I like apart from get in the dugout for a couple of weeks. I am just going to get my head down and get on with the football."

McCreadie's punishment could have been much more severe than the fine and ban issued by the Sussex FA.

Chief executive Ken Benham said: "Having taken into account the plea for mitigation and having listened to all the evidence at the hearing, the commission viewed that the sentence issued was sufficient."

A spokesman for Hailsham said: "The club would like to thank the Sussex FA for the fair hearing afforded to Ken McCreadie. Whilst being disappointed at the verdict we are satisfied that the imposition of a 56-day touchline ban and a fine of £50 accurately reflect the commission's view of the evidence as it was presented to them.

"Whilst still maintaining his innocence to the charge, Mr McCreadie will not appeal against the finding of guilt or the sentence imposed upon him, as he now wishes to bring an end to this regrettable incident and begin to concentrate once again on football matters."

McCreadie is on bail pending further investigations after Jones reported the incident to the police.
