Three Sussex hockey players are heading to the Olympics.

Former Lewes player Ben Hawes, whose family live in Barcombe, plus East Grinstead duo Glenn Kirkham and Ashley Jackson were in the starting line-up as Great Britain won their Olympic qualifier play-off final 2-0 against India in Santiago, Chile, last night.

Jackson set up the opening goal for Barry Middleton while Richard Mantell scored the second from a short corner.

Britain had already won their five group games but needed to beat eight-times Olympic champions India in the play-off to qualify for the Beijing tournament.

Hawes is captain of the side and, barring injury, he and the East Grinstead duo are virtually certain to be in the squad for the Olympics.

Send your messages of congratulations to Ben Hawes, Glenn Kirkham and Ashley Jackson here.
