Lewes tonight refused to confirm they have parted company with manager Steven King.

Speculation is rife the club have sacked their manager just days after being crowned Blue Square south champions.

However, neither Lewes nor King are prepared to comment on the rumours.

Managing director Martin Elliott said the club would be making a statement on certain issues next week but would not confirm this was about the manager's position.

Elliott spoke earlier in the week about the need for a cash injection to assist the club following promotion to the top level of non-league football.

Among the problems facing Lewes are getting the Dripping Pan an A grading within 12 months of reaching Blue Square premier. Elliott revealed the club had already spent £1million on achieving a B grading for their ground.

The Argus understands a group of investors are getting involved with the club and want to bring in their own manager.

One local football figure being linked to the group is Albion commercial manager Kevin Keehan, who is known to be quitting his job with the Seagulls at the end of the season.

The fear among supporters is that if King was to leave for whatever reason the championship-winning squad could follow him out of the club. King himself refused to say anything today.

There is sure to be confusion among supporters for tomorrow's final league game of the season at home to Weston-super-Mare. Lewes are due to be presented with the championship trophy after the game.

If Lewes have axed Kingy then it's an utter disgrace. He's been a hero to take the title and brought in some talented players to boost the squad.
Lewes would be lost without Kingy, he may be an agent as well - so a conflict of interests is obvious - but to achieve what he has ever since being given the chance to manage the Rooks has been nothing short of tremendous.
To lose Kingy will leave Lewes in tatters, and the obvious target to take over would be Eastbourne Borough's Garry Wilson should the Borough Boyz fail to win promotion through the play-offs.
Hopefully the rumours are untrue and the legendary King lives on at the Dripping Pan.

New manager, new team required for next season, perhaps we'll end up Brighton Reserves. Ten years we've waited for tomorrow, had thought about boycotting, but we've have to thank the team and manager for their monumental efforts this season.
Thanks to all the players and Steve King for some wonderful memories

I've heard that Kingy's demands for fake tan lotion were excessive and were eating in to the budget for next season........Steve McClaren is available....

There's no truth in the rumour that king is going to manage the norwegian side troll sportsburger but my money's on him turning up as a mascot at afc wimbledon next season dressed as a womble... as for Garry Wilson taking over, he'd rather stay with a club with a decent 'A grade' ground and the set-up to stay in the conference premier

Good luck to Steve King, as for Lewes is back down next season, because i have it on good authority Gordon Brown is taking over as Managing Director with Tony Blair as Manager.

Will be interesting to see if the consortium (whoever they are) want to move the club to a new ground. There's no way the Dripping Pan will ever be fit for League football, which has to be the aim at some point in the next few years. Perhaps a new manager and major investment are needed to take the club on to the next level.

I think people should judge the consortium when they know who they are and what they plan to do. I very much doubt it was them who leaked this a day before the trophy presentation - it's more likely to have been King or a player trying to save his job.

Even in the jaws of victory Lewes FC still provide everyone else with great amusement, idiots.

What a joke of club - the bubble will burst and in a few years it will be back to the county league for dripping spam.

Come on Rooks fans lets get behind the team today and whether Kingy is there or not keep on chanting his name. Also lets make an atmosphere for the players as they have worked so hard this season to win the league title.
Come on you Rooks !!!!!

I'm a brighton fan but had to comment on the alleged events.
If they are true it shows once again that very few people that run football clubs have any sentinment or feeling for the fans!!!
I hope Steve King goes somehwere else and rubs the lewes boards faces in it because it is all they deserve but the fans deserve a whole lot better!!!

Whatever the truth of whether Mr.King has jumped, been pushed, or is merely in the departure lounge, it is difficult to shed too many tears.

Football is a ruthless game, he has done well for Lewes, possibly even for himself if some rumours are to be believed.

However, the treatment meted out in previous seasons to players/personnel during Mr.King's tenure has not always been of the highest standards.

Those with an interest in Lewes will remember Marc Cabel...

What kind of club celebrates winning the title by leaking to the press that they will sack there manager at the end of the season. I feel sorry for the fans, such a historic moment ruined by the boards incompotence. They seem to run the football club like a Sunday league club. Shoddy, Shoddy, Shoddy. There are some big clubs in the coferance and unless there is investment there is a serious potential for on and off field humiliation.

Bad news travels a long way then? Doubt it.
Sounds as though Steven King was miffed by not being offered contract so ensured he wd let the media know some of the details.
Isn't he based at Eastbourne Marina? The Sports looked good against us in the Sussex Cup semi, but their boss was subdued. Maybe a straight swop during the close season?
Had a call from a m8 in Newport stating that King is taking over from Peter Beadle as County failed at home to Fisher today.
Fisher must be favourites to win the play-offs, as Wayne Burnett is in charge so will teach nothing but silky skills to his squad. Burnett would be an asset at Lewes should Fisher fail to win play-off final at Stevenage on 8 May. Will be there to see what is on offer for Creepy next term, should be a fun time out.

Disgraceful what's happened to Steven King.
OK, so he's an agent and is obsessed by stopwatches, but he's been magnificent for Lewes FC. How they beat us 1-0 was shocking, we ran circles around them!
Been at Newport County today, got nerve-wrangling towards the end - especially as we were down to ten men and they notched a late, late goal.
But at Newport, the fans were furious with Peter Beadle and there were rumours before and after the game that King had been in talks with Newport.
But County were a load of ex-pros who didn't make the grade. And Beadle had a low budget, something that King didn't have to worry about with some of the Lewes squad taking home in excess of £600 per week.
Sad day for this league, sorry loss for Lewes FC. Best of British to King, will be boss at Newport, Eastbourne or AFC Wimbledon by all accounts. Think he could do better than those with such a brilliant record.
Now I hope that Burnett can guide us - Fisher - to the same division as Lewes with wins over Hampton and either Braintree or Eastbourne.
The King has been chucked out of the Pan and into some superior job, a blessing in disguise for the mighty man.

Given the timing, I'd be pretty sure the leak didn't come from the club or the new investors.

Rumours were rife that King was being courted by Newport County. And on Sat evening the Welsh side gave Pete Beadle the heave-ho.
Seems King is off from Eastbourne Marina to work his magic at Newport County next term. They will win the league with him.
