Cricket: Broadwater are easy winners

Four teams opened the new-look Invitation League season with victories.

Favourites Broadwater were convincing 59 run winners at home to Southwick after posting 213-4 declared.

Openers Bob Reynolds (75) and Mark Sinsbury (47) put on 105 for the first wicket and the declaration came after Richard Luker had reached an unbeaten half-century.

Southwick were then dismissed for 54 despite 49 from Chris Summers.

Clymping crushed Selsey by 117 runs although they were in some trouble before Karl Pierce (85) and Gareth Challen (50) pulled them round with a sixth-wicket stand of 109. For the visitors, Josh Stocks took 5-18.

Selsey were dismissed for just 87, the damage done by Andrew Danson who took 6-41.

Crawley Eagles beat local rivals Ram by six wickets to get their season off to a winning start.

Fallah took 7-33 as Ram were dismissed for 134 and the hosts eased to victory thanks to Imran's 55.

Worthing Chippingdale beat Wisborough Green by 19 runs in a low-scoring tussle.

Mark Gough (4-50) and Ben Thatcher (4-15) helped dismiss Chipps for 109 but Wisborough were then dismissed for just 90 in reply on a seamer-friendly wicket.

Southwater's Nick Baker made a great start to the season with 6-16 as his side routed Aldwick for just 43 in division two.

Earlier, Johann Brouwer had made 77 in Southwater's 183-8 declared.

West Chiltington & Thakeham bowled out Rustington for just 79 on the way to a six-wicket win while the other completed match finished in a high-scoring draw.

St Andrews rattled up 220-5 at Felbridge & Sunnyside with Ian Murray (85) and Ben Carruthers (64) laying the foundations with a second-wicket stand of 111. For Felbridge, Chris Richens took 4-15.

The home side clung on for a draw, finishing on 123-7 with Dan Strange taking 5-18.

The games between Broadbridge Heath and Storrington and Scaynes Hill versus Eastergate were both abandoned without a ball being bowled.
