Grasp this new start, says Adams

Micky Adams has urged Albion's bright young prospects to relish the prospect of working with a new manager.

The returning Seagulls boss has met with first team players over the past two days.

Adams, a surprise appointment last week, knows several members of his first team squad came through the youth ranks at the club under the guidance of Dean Wilkins, the man he has replaced in charge. He reckons they can embrace new leadership, whether or not Wilkins decides to stay at Withdean as coach.

Adams said: "In my experience footballers tend to be quite resilient. They see managers come and go.

"Maybe it's a bit daunting for the younger lads who haven't experienced it before.

"There will be players who are not bothered about me coming in and others who are disappointed. That's the same in any dressing room.

"Dean had his ideas about certain players but as far as I'm concerned it's a clean slate for everybody. This is all part of their footballing education. They have worked with Dean for a number of years, some of them since they were nine, but now it's a new man with different ideas which will further their education.

"It's a positive thing for them in many respects."

Adams has identified areas in the squad which need strengthening but declined to comment on a report in the Sheffield Star that he was interested in Chesterfield's out-of-contract defender Janos Kovacs.

We need proven experienced players like Richards, Westlake, Levein and Gillespie not unproven players like Kovacs!

Sorry Micky, Martyn has seen this player on a number of times and he knows what he is talking about

Why do we need another centre back? This is the least of our worries at the moment. With Elphick, Lynch and El-Abd he won't play anyway!

Just picked up a thread on this player on another site:

Hardly a ringing endorsement of the player. I suspect it is just paper talk anyway and there is probably no substence or truth behind the rumour whatsoever!

A player that a league two club is prepared to release with a year to run on his contract is really going to imprve our squad!

As far as I am concerned the four areas we do need to strengthen this summer are left-back, central midfield, left wing and upfront.

left back, central midfield, left wing and upfront ? Thats half the team !....Martyn, I tend to agree with you....not too many can feel complacent.MA knows what he wants and has a good idea of whom he can get within the contraints of the club.

Also we are signign a league 2 centre half who dont even get into chesterfield. Sorry guys but i dont think we are lookin at gainin promotion next season.
