Hastings United chairman Dave Walters has slapped a £10,000 price tag on star striker Sam Adams.
Last season's leading scorer looked set to join Ryman League division one south Kent side Ashford Town with the fee expected to be set by a tribunal.
However, Walters has revealed that as Ryman premier league outfit Hastings only had an option on extending Adams' contract into a second year a tribunal is not possible and the matter is now between the two clubs.
Walters said: "Ashford put in an offer of £600, which we have turned down as it is nowhere near our valuation.
"I have put a £10,000 valuation on the player and that figure is not just plucked out of the air.
"Carl Rook was signed from Horsham by Tonbridge for £7,000 and he left Hastings because he was below Sam in the pecking order. He was our benchmark.
"Sam is only 21, our top scorer, has been under contract for two-and-a-half years and they are in a lower division."
