Reds takeover to be finalised within a week

Crawley boss Steve Evans says the proposed club takeover will be completed this week.

Reds announced last week that an unnamed consortium had finalised the details of the purchase and were set to tie up the deal by the end of the season.

Evans said: "The new owners have done their due diligence and people can now wait for the big announcement in days rather than weeks I believe.

"I think people will be pleased with some of the people on the consortium, they have the real interest of Crawley at heart.

"All the business diligence that has to be undertaken is done and the secretary, Barry Munn, was asked by the chairman to speak to the Conference to sanction the go ahead."

Evans has confirmed that Crawley's players were forced to travel to a recent game by car because the club failed to pay a bill to the company who drove the team bus.

Evans originally claimed there was a "mechanical fault" with the coach after Reds drove themselves to an away day at Altrincham.

It has since been revealed that coach firm, D&K coaches, refused to take the team because the club owed around £13,000.

Evans said: "When I arrived at the ground the coach was there and it was said it was not going and we had problems. I assumed we had mechanical problems.

"I know there was a meeting where the amount owed was agreed. It was significantly less than £13,000, we must travel by first class British Airways for it to be £13,000.

"I wrongfully thought that when they said there was a problem it was a mechanical problem, I didn't think we hadn't paid the bus company so I apologise if anyone thought they were misled."
