Reds determined to be party poopers
Crawley are determined to spoil Torquay's play-off party, according to assistant boss Paul Raynor.
The Gulls need a point against Reds at Plainmoor tomorrow to guarantee second place and a more favourable two-legged semi-final against the fifth placed side.
Torquay boss Paul Buckle has predicted his side will get the result they need and a big crowd is expected to turn up looking to end the league season on a high.
But Raynor insists Reds have no intention to just hand Torquay the points after their embarrassing defeat on Tuesday.
Crawley produced one of their worst performances of the campaign in a 4-0 thrashing against Halifax in their last home game of the season.
Raynor said: "Torquay are the biggest spending team in our division by a million miles and have some fantastic players.
"They will be looking to go into the play-offs full of confidence with a win and their fans will be expecting to have a good day out and enjoy themselves. But we are not going down there just to roll over for them. We want to spoil their party.
"The players were really disappointed after the other night and quite a few of them were still sitting in the changing room in their kit a long time after the final whistle.
"We didn't have to say too much to them because they all know they didn't perform and are hurting from it.
"They want to put it right and end the season on a good note and I fully expect a reaction to get it out of our system.
"The level of training and commitment since Tuesday has been brilliant. The boys were in early and I had to drive them off the pitch afterwards, which is really good.
"It has not always been like that but there is a real determination among the players to do well."
Raynor admits the 4-1 FA Trophy quarter-final defeat at Torquay earlier this season will also be on the minds of the players.
He said: "We started well in that game but a few individual errors cost us. Because it was a cup game, we gambled more than we would in a league match to try to get back into it and ended up losing. It will be a different sort of game this time but the players will want to try to put it right."
Raynor has been pleased with his first season in charge alongside boss Steve Evans and reckons Reds fans have a lot to look forward to.
He said: "We feel we have made massive steps this season. Since Steve and I walked in last summer with only five players at the club, we have come on leaps and bounds.
"We have a very good base of players to build on next year and we know where we need to strengthen. If we can do that over the summer, we should be in a position to have a very good season."
Striker Jon-Paul Pittman returned to training this week following a hamstring problem but is unlikely to be involved. Kick-off is 5.15pm.
