Crawley boss Richie Barker has ruled out adding to his strikeforce ahead of today’s clash with Scunthorpe United.

Barker is keen to bring in another striker after Jimmy Spencer’s loan from Huddersfield Town was terminated on Wednesday due to a persistent knee injury.

With Gary Alexander joining AFC Wimbledon on loan until the summer and John Akinde having his contract cancelled last week it has left Barker short of options up front.

The loan window opened yesterday but Barker admits he is unlikely to have anyone in place until the televised game against Doncaster Rovers a week on Monday.

Barker said: “We are looking but is going slowly at the moment. Logistically it was always going to be tough to get someone in this week as we have been based in the north but we are working on one or two things.

“We are having to start afresh too because we targeted Jimmy and Jamie (Proctor) in the Janaury window and got them and didn’t have anybody else lined up who we can go back to.Ideally we would like somebody similar to Jimmy who can take the workload off Jamie a bit.”

Crawley face a gruelling schedule in the closing few months of the season with the match against Doncaster kicking off a run of 15 games in eight weeks. Barker says that will stretch Crawley’s small squad to the limit but is only likely to make further loan signings in an emergency.

He added: “We are only looking for one at the minute but that could change depending on the circumstances. I would be amazed if we didn’t pick up injuries and suspensions over the next couple of months and when we do we will probably have to do something then.”
