Crawley have spoken to the match referee as they wait to hear whether Paul Connolly will face disciplinary action over a clash with a fan in the 1-0 defeat at Brentford on Tuesday.

The Football Association have confirmed they are investigating the incident and are likely to decide whether to charge the full-back by the end of the week.

Connolly reacted to a Brentford supporter hurling the ball at him as he went to take a throw-in in the closing stages of the game at Griffin Park.

The former Leeds United and Millwall defender lashed out at the fan which prompted supporters in that section of the ground to throw bottles on to the pitch in the direction of Connolly.

Chief executive Michael Dunford said: “We have had a conversation with the match referee and are aware of what is in his report which reflects the incident and we wait to hear any observations from the FA."
