Crawley have joined the race to sign free-scoring midfielder John-Joe O’Toole after missing out on Chuks Aneke.

Reds are among a number of clubs keen to secure the services of O’Toole, who is a free agent after activating a release clause in his contract following Bristol Rovers’ relegation from the Football League.

O’Toole was included in the League Two team of the year last season after scoring 15 goals from central midfield, including the winner in Rovers’ FA Cup victory over Crawley in January.

Reds, who could complete the signing of former Albion goalkeeper Mitch Walker from Dover Athletic today, have switched their attentions to O’Toole after missing out on the highly-rated Aneke.

The 20-year-old midfielder – who also scored against Crawley last season – joined Belgian top flight outfit Zulte Waregem yesterday following his release be Arsenal at the end of the season.

Walker, who was released by Albion in 2012, impressed Crawley boss John Gregory while training with the club part-time last season and would offer competition for Brian Jensen.
