Boss John Gregory hailed Crawley’s fitness levels as they sunk Ipswich in the second half of extra-time in the Capital One Cup.

Reds had rode their luck slightly against their Championship opponents in normal time as Frank Nouble missed a gilt-edged chance and Tommy Bishop crashed a shot against the bar.

But Crawley refused to buckle in extra-time against an Ipswich side only featuring three players who played on Saturday with Izale McLeod grabbing the winner in the 111th minute.

Gregory said: “It was a very tough game and it always looked like there was only going to be one goal that settled it.

“Ipswich came with a lot of fresh legs in their team while we have put out almost the same team from the weekend but if anything I thought we looked stronger in extra-time.

“We rode our luck a little bit at times but we defended resolutely to keep another clean sheet which is perhaps what I was most pleased about.”
