Boss John Gregory will step up his search for new players this week following the humbling at the hands of Rochdale on Saturday.

Reds suffered their heaviest home defeat for more than six years as they crashed 4-0 to slip to 19th in League One.

Gregory was already keen to add to his squad once the loan window opens today but says the manner of Crawley’s performance makes new faces imperative before the visit of Fleetwood this weekend.

He said: “It does make it more urgent really. We need freshening up so hopefully we will have one or two in this week.

“I am asking a lot of some of the boys who I asked to do jobs on Saturday so we have to get one or two experienced players in to create competition for places.

“I do have opportunity to do that but it is not easy financially. We are making lots of phone calls but I am also aware we need to bring in the right people.”

Crawley were booed off after a fourth consecutive league defeat while there were chants of “this is embarrassing” when Calvin Andrew made it 4-0.

Gregory added: “If you pay your money to watch a football game you can say what you like. If you buy something from a shop and you don’t like it you take it back so fans have every right to have a moan.

“The fans were singing that they were embarrassed but I am more embarrassed than they are. I take full responsibility for that performance and can only apologise to the fans as it wasn’t good enough.”
