Crawley manager John Gregory called in a favour from ex-Reds manager Steve Evans to further strengthen his squad yesterday.

Evans has allowed Mat Sadler to return to the Checkatrade.com Stadium on a month’s loan from Rotherham United just five months after he walked out on the club.

Sadler rejected a new deal at Crawley at the end of last season to join the Millers but has struggled to force his way into the first team at New York Stadium, making just one appearance so far this season.

The left-back – who was an ever present in the league for Crawley in the last two seasons - is the third signing Gregory has made in the aftermath of the 4-0 thumping at home to Rochdale last weekend following the arrival of Keith Keane and Josh Wright on Tuesday.

Gregory said: “We're delighted to get Mat back here and I must thank Steve Evans for allowing him to come down to us and get some games under his belt.

“Mat knows the club inside out and he will bring us real experience of League One level. With Mat, Keith and Josh arriving this week and Joe (Walsh) and Gwion (Edwards) back (after international duty) we have some real options in terms of selection for the Fleetwood game (tomorrow).”
