Skipper Josh Simpson is ready to settle an old score after being given the green light to return to action.

Simpson has been sidelined since damaging ankle ligaments on the opening day of the season at Barnsley but is in contention to face Yeovil tomorrow after returning to full training this week.

The midfielder will be keen to make an immediate impact against a Glovers side managed by Gary Johnson who showed him the door just two months into his rein at Peterborough.

Reds boss John Gregory said: “Josh has trained well this week so he comes straight into my thoughts for tomorrow. He hasn’t played for six weeks but there is no reason why he can’t get through 90 minutes if necessary.

“Marvin (Elliott) played the whole match on Saturday after seven months without a game and Josh can do the same. He is an athlete so he won’t have lost too much of his natural fitness.

“Having him back is like signing a new player. He’s only played 45 minutes for me this season and we have missed the energy and drive he brings in midfield quite badly.”

The return of Simpson gives Gregory a wealth of options in central midfield following the arrival of Keith Keane, Josh Wright and Elliott while he has been sidelined.

Lanre Oyebanjo is also fit following injury meaning Jimmy Smith is able to return to his favoured midfield role after filling in at right-back in the last three games.

However, Simpson’s return has been offset by the news that Ryan Dickson is likely to be ruled out for at least five weeks with the knee injury he sustained at Doncaster Rovers.
